West Berkshire Council is seeking a Lawyer - Information Governance to join our Legal and Democratic Services team, reporting to the Principal Lawyer - Information Governance. Responsibilities As the Lawyer - Information Governance, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and support on information governance matters, including data protection, freedom of information, and copyright. Your key responsibilities will include: Providing expert legal advice to Council services on information governance issues Handling complex data protection requests and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation Advising on freedom of information requests and managing appeals to the Information Commissioner Conducting legal research and preparing reports, briefings, and correspondence Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure effective information governance practices In addition to information governance, you will also be involved in providing legal support in other areas such as contracts drafting and advice and possibly some involvement in employment matters, and participation in the Council's decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes: Qualified solicitor or lawyer with relevant post-qualification experience Strong knowledge and expertise in information governance legislation and best practices Experience providing legal advice on data protection and freedom of information Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships Proactive and solution-focused approach to legal issues Ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload If you are a motivated and skilled legal professional with a passion for information governance, we would love to hear from you.
