As someone who’s data-driven and has a keen eye for detail, you’ll work with our supportive and friendly Homeownership Team. They’ll share their knowledge and expertise to help you build and develop your skills in homeownership services, with a focus on accounts.
At Yorkshire Housing, we’re all about investing in the next generation! This apprenticeship is your chance to gain invaluable skills and experience to build the foundations of your career in Finance and Homeownership. It’s a great opportunity to kickstart your career while making a real difference to the future of housing!
What qualification will I be working towards?
You’ll be working towards completing an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. Your learning will be a mix between online study and classroom sessions at our study centre in Leeds. We’ll make sure you have dedicated time each week for your studies and provide plenty of chances to apply what you’ve learned in real-life situations!
What will I be doing?
You’ll learn to manage and respond to day-to-day queries of all things homeownership and build up to becoming the go-to person for our customers and colleagues about their service charge accounts and rent setting.
As part of the team, you’ll be helping our Homeownership Account Expert set, track, and balance the yearly service charge budget for our homeownership schemes. Working closely with the team, you’ll make sure budgets are spot-on and customers understand their charges, all while hitting targets and deadlines along the way.
In addition, you’ll also help keep our customer, property, and case records accurate, supporting the team by ensuring all data is well-organised and processed correctly.
Here’s what else you’ll be getting up to:
* Creating and maintaining accurate customer records
* Reviewing and calculating Homeownership service charges, ground rent, and shared ownership rent
* Supporting our Homeownership Property Experts to resolve rent and service charge queries for customers
* Building great relationships with our teams within Yorkshire Housing – from our Customer Experience Team colleagues to our Income Officers
* From time to time you’ll be speaking with our customers, so you’ll need to be able to explain the numbers in a way that’s easy for them to understand
But that's not all – you’ll be mentored by our Homeownership Account Expert who will support you every step of the way on your journey with us. It’s your chance to learn, grow, and be part of something exciting!
What you’ll bring to the role:
* GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Maths
* Excellent problem-solving skills so that you can get to the bottom of customer queries and find resolutions
* Great organisation skills with a good eye for detail
* Confident using Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
* A passion for working with numbers
* A great work ethic and a commitment to your own learning and development
It would be a bonus if you had:
* An interest in finance and accounts
* Some experience of working either in an office environment, or in a role where you have handled cash
If you’re sitting there thinking, I can’t quite bring everything to the role that they’re asking for, but I’m pretty confident I have a ton of other skills that make me stand out… Don’t let the bullet points put you off, we’re a friendly bunch and want to get the best people in the best roles and if that’s you, we’d love to hear from you!

In return, we offer a salary of £13,995 per annum for a 35 hours per week, 25 days annual leave (rising annually to 30 days) plus Bank Holidays.
We also work (truly) flexibly, and believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go.
But that’s not all. We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.
Our people’s health and wellbeing is one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

The fine print

Please remember to complete your application with as much detail as possible, if your CV isn’t the most detailed, your application is your time to shine!
We know not everyone excels at interviews which means we don’t always get the best out of people in a traditional interview. So, as you can probably tell we don’t do things the ‘typical’ way here at Yorkshire Housing so the next step of the process will involve a super exciting assessment centre approach where we get to see you face to face!
