SEND Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant - Secondary PRU & College - Tameside

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and College in Tameside, starting in September 2025. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity for an immediate start.

Location: Tameside
Start Date: September 2025 (Immediate start possible for the right candidate)
Contract Length: Until the end of the academic year, with the potential to go permanent
Pay: Competitive, based on experience (£95 - £115 per day dependent on qualifications and specific qualifications)
About the PRU & College:
This Secondary PRU and College in Tameside provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students who face challenges accessing mainstream education. With a focus on academic success and personal development, the institution is dedicated to nurturing students with a range of needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. The setting offers a holistic approach to education, preparing students for further education, training, and employment.
Responsibilities:
* Support students with SEND, including those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, and challenging and explosive behaviours.
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for students, ensuring they are engaged, supported, and progressing in their learning.
* Apply a holistic approach to supporting students, focusing on their academic, emotional, and social development.
* Assist with implementing behaviour management strategies to create a positive and safe learning environment, especially for students with challenging and explosive behaviours.
* Collaborate with the class teacher and other professionals to develop and deliver personalised learning plans.
* Track student progress and adjust support strategies as needed to meet individual needs.
Requirements:
* Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant, particularly in a SEND or PRU setting.
* Experience supporting children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and challenging and explosive behaviours.
* A valid DBS on the Update Service, or the ability to obtain one immediately.
* A holistic approach to supporting students, with a focus on their emotional, social, and academic well-being.
* Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
* Passionate about supporting students to achieve their potential in a PRU and College setting.
