Its central government, made more accessible to you Job description About the Group The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of the Treasury. If you are interested in the inner workings of the Government, meeting Ministers, Senior Officials and liaising with the Press, then this could be the place for you We are a friendly and inclusive Group working on some of the most exciting issues of the day, bringing together work from across the rest of the department and engaging closely with partners across Whitehall and beyond. We provide support to Ministers, through Ministerial offices. We act as Treasury's external face, through the Press Office and Communications team. We are responsible for managing the department, through our support for the Permanent Secretary, the Second Permanent Secretaries, the Treasury Board, and the Executive Management Board (EMB), and our ownership of Treasury governance structures. The Group is led by the Permanent Secretary. About the Team - Chancellor's Office This is an exciting and challenging role, offering the chance to work at the heart of Government. The Chancellors office is a close and supportive team of 11 colleagues and is the key link between the Chancellor and the Department, providing her with full policy and administrative support. You will be expected to forge strong relationships with senior HM Treasury (HMT) officials, the communications team, other ministers offices, regulators including the Bank of England and Financial Conduct Authority, and industry. Working closely with these stakeholders as well as No. 10 and special advisers, the office is at the centre of all key Treasury decisions. While there can be exceptionally busy periods, the office is a friendly and supportive one. About the Job Your key responsibilities are to support the Chancellor as Private Secretary (PS) while also working with the Groups Management Team (GMT) to manage the group and ensure it is a great place to work. Provide first class support to the Chancellor in carrying out her responsibilities across your policy portfolio. The current postholder leads on financial services, pensions and savings, and health and social care, defence, Official Development Assistance and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spending. Ensure that the Chancellor receives consistently high quality, clear and well-balanced advice with which to advance the Governments priorities, and that she is appraised of major emerging risks and advised appropriately on their handling. Interpret, clearly record, and communicate the Chancellors views and ensure that the department understands and acts on her steers and receives clear and consistent steers. Manage the Economic Secretary to the Treasurys office, including line management responsibility for the head of that office and their team. Responsibility for further ministerial offices may be added; the current postholder manages the HMT PS for the HMT-DBT joint Minister for Investment and the HMT PS for the joint HMT-DWP Minister for Pensions. Manage two Assistant Private Secretaries in the Chancellors office, one of whom is the manager of the Diary Secretary. Ensure the Chancellor is well briefed for meetings and events; attend and take minutes; plan the Chancellors involvement in international visits relating to financial services and help the Chancellor and the department deliver the set piece yearly Mansion House speech. Deputise for the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) where appropriate. Oversee day-to-day running of the Office, including across the diary and registry functions; and oversee delivery of specific Ministerial duties including parliamentary and FOIs, working as a management team with the other Private Secretary and with the PPS. In addition to maintaining high performance within the Chancellors office, you will be expected to contribute to the improvement of Ministerial Support operations across private office as part of the MIN management team and across the Group as part of the MinCom GMT.
