Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our PACU Team for a Theatre Practitioner.
You will need to be a registered Theatre Practitioner, either a Registered Nurse or ODP and should be able to demonstrate evidence of relevant continued professional development and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must also be prepared to have a flexible approach to duties to meet the needs of this 24-hour acute service.
Our 6 bedded post anaesthetic care unit provides patient focused, high quality care to patients in the post-operative phase of their treatment. We are seeking highly motivated ODPs / Nurses to join the team.
Within the main operating theatre department, it consists of 5 operating theatres and a 6 bay Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) providing elective, trauma and emergency surgery for Harrogate and the surrounding area including North Leeds, whilst offering a 24-hour service which covers Acute, Trauma and Obstetric emergencies.
Main duties of the job
The post anaesthetic care unit exists to provide a place of safety for patients recovering from general and local anaesthetic. In the PACU, the patient is consistently monitored by an experienced practitioner who will notice any small sign of a deteriorating condition and act appropriately. It is the priority of the PACU practitioner to look, listen and feel in order to make their decisions about the patient’s stability.
Together with the anaesthetist and surgeon, the PACU practitioner will plan the patient’s immediate and continuing care needs, organising pain relief, physical and psychological support and assessment of all surgical and physiological considerations in the recovering patient.
The PACU practitioner ensures all drugs and equipment are available to respond to a changing situation and in this way hope to support the patient safely through a potentially difficult time.
