Hampshire Hospitals NHS FT Research and Development department is looking for an enthusiastic senior nurse or allied health professional to lead the research delivery team at Hampshire Hospitals. You would have a background in clinical research delivery and a track record of managing people. You would be able to encourage and develop researchers within the organisation including those with no previous research experience and focusing on nurses and AHPs. You would be able to manage the staffing requirements for current and future studies to ensure that staff are adequately supported while increasing research activity. You will have an advanced knowledge of the research process to ensure that appropriate quality, financial and clinical governance is embedded and followed within the organisation. We are a small but ambitious department and are looking for someone that will help us achieve significant growth in activity. Above all the post holder must have an absolute passion for health care research and growing a service comprising on both funded and commercial studies.
Main duties of the job
The Lead Nurse / AHP: Research is accountable for research service delivery, i.e. the management of the clinical research studies within HHFT, including all clinical activity.
They will manage and provide effective senior professional leadership for all HHFT clinical research staff including research nurses, practitioners, clinical trials assistants, and clinicians and developing individuals and practice through effective recruitment, appraisal, and CPD, thereby ensuring the provision of a safe and evidence-based service to all research participants.
The post holder will provide professional and managerial liaison for research health professionals between HHFT wards, departments and divisions.
They will be jointly responsible (with relevant service and research Directors) for related policy and service development to meet agreed strategy including clinical, professional and corporate objectives.
They will be instrumental in implementing team objectives to enhance the performance and development of HHFT clinical research staff.
They will ensure that the clinical aspect of the department is safely staffed but accordingly modelled to provide a cost effective service.
The post-holder will deputise for the Clinical Lead and Head of Research and Development where required.
Job responsibilities
Jointly responsible (with the relevant services and Heads of Department) for clinical research delivery.
Provide professional leadership to the HHFT clinical research staff and work closely with other groups within HHFT.
Responsible for ensuring participants receive treatment in accordance with peer reviewed, ethically approved complex clinical research protocols.
Support clinical researchers in the implementation of their studies.
Assist with research management and governance processes across HHFT as required and during sickness or annual leave.
Authorised signatory for overtime claims and expenses of staff for whom the post holder is responsible.
Liaise with Chief Investigators (CIs) and Principal Investigators (PIs), negotiating options for satisfying gaps in resource requirements particularly with respect to research nurse/ practitioner provision for studies where resources have not been adequately resourced.
Ensure that sound arrangements are in place to ensure compliance with Clinical Governance and Research Governance.
Ensure that Adverse Events/ Serious Adverse Events (AE/SAE) are reported according to Trust and Research Protocols.
Provide information to researchers and support the nursing staff and Research Support Team in providing advice and guidance to researchers on mandatory and statutory guidelines e.g. International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP), UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care research, and UK Clinical Trials Regulations.
Collaborate with clinical researchers in increasing portfolio activity in HHFT.
If appropriate manage own research portfolio.
Lead the development and implementation of education and nursing strategies to ensure that nurses, midwives and AHPs involved in research have access to clinical supervision and are able to fulfil the NMC PREP or similar requirements.
Identify and collaborate with appropriate senior specialist nursing staff to ensure research nurses/ practitioners remain up to date in fields of expertise.

Experience and knowledge
* Experience of research in a healthcare setting
* Evidence of continuing professional and academic development
* Experience of costing trials and budget management
Skills and Ability
* Ability to work autonomously using own initiative, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
* Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of NHS Research Governance requirements and the research process
* Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and organisational skills
* Report writing and presentational skills
* Budget management skills and experience
* Able to develop business and development plans
Training and Qualification
* Registered General Nurse or Allied Healthcare Professional
* Masters level degree or proven ability to work at masters level
* ICH GCP and Research Governance Training
* PRINCE 2 or other recognised project management qualification
* Familiar with the EDGE database system
* ECDL or equivalent
