We are looking for a Design Technician toprovide support and supervision during lessons and co-curricular time outside of the timetable. Theywill work alongside the existing technician and the teaching staff to play an important part in maintaining excellent standards in the department. A willingness to engage with pupils constructively and supportively is essential. They will also be expected to contribute broadly to the life of the Design Schools. Main Duties Assist in the preparation of materials and equipment for lessons; Order materials and equipment for the department, and coordinate the deliveries; Maintain equipment and tools in the Design Schools, including CNC and rapid prototyping machinery; Assist with out-of-lesson supervision of pupils, ensuring a safe working environment; Maintain a well-organised and safe working environment at all times, including ensuring that all safety and security procedures are met and ensuring the department is well-presented; Attend training courses, trade shows, etc. as agreed with the Head of Design to stay abreast of developments in Design and Technology; Carry out administrative tasks and other functions related to the smooth running of the department; Provide ad hoc support to the department as required; Commitment and promotion of equality, diversity andinclusion; All positions at Eton are classed as regulated activity as per the Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024guidance, therefore a good understanding of safeguarding procedures is essential; Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including butnot limited to, completing safeguarding training as required, and ensuring any safeguarding updates issued by the College are read and understood; Understand and comply with procedures and legislation relating to confidentiality. The Ideal Candidate To be successful in this role, the incumbent should have: Experience using a range of tools and equipment, potentially including CAD and CNC machinery; An understanding of and commitment to the highest levels of pupil welfare; The ability to share experience and enthusiasm in a range of design disciplines; A good understanding of Health and Safety requirements; Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt these depending on who you are communicating with; A clear understanding of the needs of young people and an ability to maintain a good sense of order and behaviour in the areas for which they are responsible; Experience working in a teaching environment would be an advantage; Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to adapt to a range of systems, manage a wide range of tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
