General Function
Under the supervision of the Day Camp Site Supervisor, the Day Camp Unit Lead will be responsible for the supervision, implementation, and development of activity plans for a group of children, including assisting in the child’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
* Serve as a role model for all youth participating in the day camp program by displaying exemplary behavior at all times.
* Assist in providing meaningful programs for campers (not free play).
* Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; attending to the needs of campers at all times.
* Welcome parents and campers at all times.
* Assume equal responsibility for general housekeeping tasks, including bagging trash, campsite clean-up, and bus clean-up.
* Attend all pre-camp training for all counseling staff, and attend all staff meetings and other activities (i.e. family events) as required.
* Understand and follow all emergency procedures on the campsite and take proper precautions to keep children safe at all times. Adhere to all regulations by State laws and requirements and follow all safety, blood-borne, and child abuse prevention guidelines.
* React kindly and firmly in a positive manner when disciplining children and take a leadership role in interacting with youth.
* Establish and maintain a positive and appropriate relationship with all coworkers, YMCA staff, YMCA members, program participants, and the general public.
* Document incidents and accidents by filling out an FYI for parents and YMCA incident report forms, and submit them to the Day Camp Director.
* Display character development values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and integrity at all times.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
* Experience working with youth preferred.
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Meets the requirements set forth by the state licensing agency. Documentation of DHS clearance prior to starting work, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications are required within 60 days.
* Complete Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion training as required.
Abilities & Skills
* Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
* Ability to plan, lead, and participate in all physical activities.
* Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children.
* Capability to be outside participating for the majority of the day.
