Consultant Psychiatrist in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust
At CNTW we strive to provide the BEST CARE, delivered by the BEST PEOPLE, to achieve the BEST OUTCOME.
This part-time (6PA) post for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) will be based in the CBT Centre within the Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies in Newcastle upon Tyne. The post holder will join a well-established, dynamic, and supportive team, providing face-to-face assessments and delivering CBT individually to clients with complex mental health issues. They will also provide training and supervision as well as contribute to strategic leadership. The post holder's work will involve the whole of the patient pathway, working together with the current consultant and therapists.
The Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies is actively involved in postgraduate training, supporting higher trainees in psychotherapy (one psychoanalytic, one psychodynamic or group, and one CBT) as well as a full-time core trainee. The post-holder will have the opportunity and be supported to develop their training skills and be a trainer and supervisor for core and higher trainees. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, including resident doctors, they will be the clinical expert from a medical CBT perspective, ensuring best practice care is delivered whilst supporting the wider team. The post holder will also join the supportive leadership within the centre.
Main Duties of the Job
There will be a stimulating combination of clinical, teaching, supervisory, reflective practice, and leadership opportunities.
The clinical work includes face-to-face CBT assessments and mostly individual treatments and multidisciplinary clinical team meetings supporting other team members.
CBT supervision for medical trainees and other CBT therapists within the centre is an exciting aspect of the post, and there will be other opportunities in terms of consultation/scaffolding and other indirect work to support and develop teams across the care pathway.
We anticipate that the post holder will provide around 10 new assessments per year and offer around 4-6 hours of face-to-face CBT per week.
The CBT Centre also supports teams in CNTW and other organisations with their development, and we are evolving a menu of joint-assessment, complex case workshops, disorder-specific training, supervision workshops, and reflective practice. The Centre benefits from links with Inpatient and Community Psychology Services, the Crisis and Home Treatment Service, Community Treatment Teams, Inpatient Teams, the Regional Affective Disorder Service, the Eating Disorders Service, The Regional Gender Dysphoria Service, and the Addictions Service.
