Duties: Perform all duties of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding lead as it appears in KCSIE Guidance and undertake any other such duties that may be reasonably required of your commensurate within your grade Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead deputising in the absence of the Campus Designated Safeguarding Lead as and when required and performing the role as necessary to comply with KCSIE requirements Providing support, expertise and guidance to staff on all safeguarding, prevent and child protection matters. Manage the college’s safeguarding register including the Urgent Attendance Alert Register in line with college processes and procedures. Ensuring that students are robustly safeguarded and provided with timely and effective support and interventions. Work in collaboration with other campus DDSLs to ensure an aligned and high-quality approach across all college campuses To support with the school reference and transition process for vulnerable cohorts, working closely with internal staff, next of kin, guardians, schools and other professionals as appropriate. In conjunction with the Group Designated Safeguarding Lead ensure that all Prevent concerns are timely and accurately referred, in line with policies and procedures, working with agencies to ensure college representation is provided at related meetings including Channel Panel. Develop and maintain strong and effective professional relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies, completing timely referrals and proactively seeking appropriate support and interventions for students. Provide college representation at local and wider forums developing initiatives, sharing best practice and enhancing partnership working. Contribute to supporting students to develop their own health and wellbeing, through organising events and the presence of external agency support. Coordinate the work placement counselling provision ensuring suitable tracking and monitoring. Reporting on number of referrals and engagement. Skills/Experience: Effective knowledge of Safeguarding processes and procedures. Significant experience of working with external agencies, and stakeholders Including social care, health, charities Recent experience of supporting children and vulnerable adults with their mental health and understanding the barriers to learning faced Experience in leading cross college initiatives and working within a team Knowledge of community, social and voluntary provision within the wider FE economy Qualifications: Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working in HE/FE sector. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) trained English and Maths to at least a level 2 Ideal Attributes: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work off of own initiative and manage complex caseloads Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with students, agencies, parents/carers Capacity to use IT systems to record and manage student interventions Excellent listening skills with the ability to deescalate in challenging situations Ability to motivate others through excellent written and verbal communicational skills We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
