Job overview
Working autonomously, you will have responsibility to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based nursing care under guidance from the B7 CNS teams, ACP's and Consultants.
Integral to the post is the ability to demonstrate leadership skills, advanced interpersonal and communication skills alongside highly specialised clinical skills.
To assist the teams in the planning and delivery of education across a varied range of settings and to a wide range of health and social care professionals.
This is a 0.5 WTE post working initially with the Furness community team however will be flexible across UHMB. This is a fixed term contract within the integrated community care group.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic Band 6 Palliative Care Nurse. The post holder will work alongside an experienced team which covers a large geographical area. This post is fixed term for 6 months based in the community team.
Working autonomously, you will have responsibility to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based nursing care under guidance from the B7 CNS teams and Consultants.
Integral to the post is the ability to demonstrate leadership skills, advanced interpersonal and communication skills alongside highly specialised clinical skills.
The post holder will have a good understanding of collaborative working, alongside various HCP delivering care to complex patients and provide specialist advice, guidance and support to patients, carers/relatives, clinical practitioners and peers.
To assist the teams in the planning and delivery of education across a varied range of settings and to a wide range of health and social care professionals.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to service development, audit and research.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

* EDUCATION: RGN level 1
* Post registration specialist education
* Holds a degree in a related subject.
* Teaching or mentoring qualification
* EXPERIENCE: Relevant post registration experience at band 6 or above
* Experience of caring for patients with palliative needs
* Experience and ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary clinical team
* Experience of supporting junior staff to develop
* Knowledge and understanding of symptom management.
* SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE: Up-to-date knowledge of the developments in appropriate area care.
* Demonstrable clinical skills within specialist area.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and its application
* Awareness of research and application to practice
* Awareness of the audit cycle
