Location: This role is based in The Quadrant:MK. This role is a full-time opportunity, flexible working patterns will be considered. We are currently working a hybrid format. You must live within 90 minutes of The Quadrant.
Band & Salary: Band 4C 43,588 - 49,037 (Subject to experience)

About the role (External)
We are recruiting for a specific role within the team, and we need an enthusiastic, motivated and inspiring individual to join our team. The role will mostly involve supporting our Mining Team, who manage all of the Network Rail [NR] legacy mining records, which are currently accessed via Geographical Information Systems [GIS] /Geospatial data management systems. The role will also provide support to our internal NR Works Delivery and Capital Delivery Services teams as well.
We are seeking an individual with strong GIS, data management skills and communication skill with an ability to communicate technical issues to nontechnical staff. The applicant should have UK Driving Licence. There will be an opportunity for the right candidate to develop in the role, with the support of the wider team.
About the team..
Technical Authoritys purpose is to support our front line to deliver safe and efficient performance for passengers and freight.
The Mining team are Network Rail's technical experts in respect of mineral extraction; the team develops the mining policy [see 2019, Mining Risk Management Policy this is also attached in the IRC] and in collaboration, drafts mining standards. They provide technical advice to the routes and the assurance framework against which the mineral extraction and landfill risk is managed. They are the custodian of Network Rail's mining information archive and provide factual and interpretative mining reports based on this and other information available to the team
Who are we looking for?
Were looking for an Engineer with a strong GIS knowledge and application skills back ground, to provide design, development and implementation and support our existing systems to deliver the Technical Authoritys [Mining Team] operational requirements .
This role will support the data management and provision of mining hazard information to internal and external partners. The role will use a wide variety of Geospatial systems [and software] for determining and managing legacy mining risks. The role is wide ranging covering, data collection, management, and dissemination of digital mining data whilst supporting the requirements outlined by Network Rails policy and standards.
What does the average day look like?
As the focal point for best practices and technical advice, you will supply pre-construction mining information to internal and external stakeholders, deliver timely updates to Network Rails Mining Hazard Database and Geographical Information Systems. Acting as the technical specialist for the management and analysis of geospatial mining data for the rail network you will support the Mining Team in the delivery of their operational processes and manage the records associated with this.
You will contribute towards continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the productivity of the team and help ensure compliance with legislation and Network Rails Policy and Standards.
Essential Criteria
-HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience (Level 4 / 5)
-Substantial experience in a relevant engineering area
-Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards
-An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
Desirable
-HNC/HND or equivalent qualification preferably in Geographical Information Systems or Geospatial Asset Management or a related discipline
-Experience in using ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, FME, python or other coding languages
-Knowledge of asset and information digital management of records
-Knowledge of the storage of data management and data quality issues
-A working knowledge / understanding of mining, geology or geotechnical engineering
-Proven ability to work systematically and meet deadlines
