Job overview
The post holder will work in the Community Radiology Department, mainly based at the Abingdon Hospital Centre, assisting the radiographic staff in the smooth running of the department. Cross-site working may be required at Bicester and Witney Hospitals.
The Community Radiology department offers a 7-day a week walk-in service for GP patients, Minor Injuries Unit, wards, and outpatient referrals.
The post holder will work closely with all staff, particularly radiographers, to assist with delivering a high standard of care.
Main duties of the job
* Supporting Radiographers with plain film imaging.
* Daily checks to be completed in the department.
* Support other Radiology Assistants and Admin staff.
* Assist with ordering, receiving equipment & placing in the store cupboard.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical:
* Introduce and welcome patients in the waiting area, confirming their identity according to the Trust Policy.
* Show compassion, sensitivity, and understanding of the anxiety and fear prior to the patient’s procedure.
* Demonstrate high standards of hand hygiene following the 5 moments and knowledge of the Infection Control Policy.
* Maintain the patient’s dignity and privacy at all times.
* Answer the telephone, dealing with enquiries promptly and courteously, taking appropriate action or referring to the correct member of the Radiology Team.
* Demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives, and members of the Multidisciplinary Team, utilizing sensitivity, empathy, and the ability to manage conflict.
* Act as a patient’s escort, preparing them for the relevant procedure and escorting them to the correct area for the procedure.
* Be fully conversant and adhere to infection control and COSHH policies to prevent cross infection and hazards.
* Maintain accurate and legible patient and departmental records.
* Demonstrate initiative and the ability to identify changes in a patient’s condition.
* Assist with patient moving and handling, using correct methods and equipment as required.
* Undertake Mandatory training as required by the Trust to develop and increase skills to improve the service to the public.
* Ensure all unit areas are clean, organized, and well stocked.
* Ensure equipment is cleaned correctly as per hospital policy.
* Assist with the removal of waste and linen from the unit to the designated areas.
* Be aware of any potential hazards and know how to report and deal with the immediate initial reaction.
Administration:
* Understand and be able to use EPR, CRIS, and other systems required within the department to obtain, store, and transmit information.
* Ensure that stationary levels within each modality are maintained and restocked as required.
* Assist with the day-to-day management of stock control and ordering for the department, ensure it is checked and put away on delivery, and report missing items to the Co-ordinator.
* Undertake clerical duties in each modality e.g., booking patients in, answering the telephone, and entering data.
Safety & Quality:
* Ensure maintenance and safe use of equipment is followed in line with Trust policy.
* Adhere to the Ionising Radiation Regulations, Health & Safety, Infection Control.
* Report all faulty equipment to an appropriate senior member of staff.
* Keep appropriate records up to date.
* Participate in the Department, Directorate Audit, and Clinical Governance Program, within the scope of the post.
