Full-Stack Technical Lead (Remote)
Location: Remote (UK Business Hours)
Job Type: Freelance / Contract
⏳ Work Commitment: 3-4 days per week (24-32 hours per week) ✨
Duration: Initial 6-7 months (to Sept), anticipated long-term / renewal
Rate: £3000-5000 GBP per month retainer based on experience

About the Role
We are looking for a Full-Stack Technical Lead to drive software development for a complex well-funded greenfield SaaS solution. Expected to be a multi-year endeavour from MVP to feature-complete, if successful it’ll enable use cases relating to KBs & knowledge sharing, data science & data-driven work planning, collaboration & client management.
You will help plan and manage technical direction by working with product, design, architecture & delivery leadership and a team of engineers. We’re a small team, so you’ll get to be involved in design & implementation end-to-end of a rich SPA web client, complex backing services & APIs and all the plumbing to bring a product to life.
You will probably get to tackle topics like:
* Real-time messaging & notifications and CMS/DAMs/DBs featuresets & services.
* Third party data, data science & lake workflows & platform integrations.
* Single, multi-tenant and x-tenant standards compliant solution design & delivery.
* And you’ll be both supported and afforded a high degree of autonomy.
Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with the full team to refine features that will deliver seamless user experiences according to well-defined requirements.
2. Lead and mentor your cross-stack team of engineers, ensuring best practices & standards in architecture, coding & DevOps are well defined and met.
3. When & appropriate, lead by example and get hands-on by architecting, developing, and optimising solutions using appropriate technologies.
4. Stay up to date with the latest industry trends & technological advancements, so you can bring your informed opinion & insights to bear to ensure a high quality outcome that all can enjoy implementing and be proud of.
Requirements
* 7+ years of full-stack development experience in a commercial setting.
* Previous technical leadership or technical management experience.
* Able & willing to work to UK timezone / hours
* Fluent in English, both verbally & in writing
Suitable Applicants will have expertise in:
1. SPA engineering using Typescript, particularly using React framework, judiciously choosing accompanying libraries and technologies.
2. Backend services & API engineering, particularly using typed Node.js based frameworks like PayloadCMS.
3. Database design, development & management (both SQL & NoSQL, but particularly RDBS).
4. Big 3 cloud platform services & solutions, particularly AWS (such as Aurora / RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, ECS / EKS, Cognito, CloudFront, VPCs and so on).
5. Evaluating & integrating SaaS & PaaS to complete solutions (e.g. for IdPs, security, monitoring, logging & alerting, analytics & data science workflows).
6. Modern DevOps principles & practices (such as gitOps / CI/CD using Github Actions or similar, IaC, SAST & PaC) and technologies (such as Pulumi, Terraform/CDKTF, Docker & Kubernetes).
7. Identifying and applying application & infrastructure best practices relating to security, availability & cost optimisation concerns (such as OWASP top 10, GDPR, PII & ISO27001, high-availability & fault tolerance, scaling & orchestration).
