Highway and Drainage Engineer - Senior Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 Hours: 37.5 hours a week Location: South West London Benefits: private healthcare, option to work from overseas for 4 weeks per year, discretionary bonus, hybrid working (3 days in the office). Overview: Our client is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with expertise in drainage and highway design. The role involves delivering sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions for infrastructure projects, while exceeding client and stakeholder expectations. They are currently very heavily focused on structural engineer and would like to add somebody with technical expertise in highways and drainage design to work independently and then grow their own team. There is a strong pipeline of work, so initially the role is focused on the delivery of design work, but will also include client liaising, managing projects and managing/mentoring staff in the near future. Key Responsibilities: Provide specialist knowledge in drainage and highway design, including 3D surface modelling and hydraulic drainage design. Represent the company in meetings with clients, contractors, and local authorities. Ensure designs comply with S278/S38 highway schemes and S104/S106/S185 drainage approvals, adhering to sustainable drainage practices and current legislation. Assist with the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments. Deliver technical support, manage design interfaces, and conduct Design Risk Assessments. Support the tendering process by reviewing client ITTs, developing design strategies, identifying risks and opportunities, and coordinating tender deliverables. Collaborate with clients and the design team to ensure seamless integration of structural Requirements: A degree in Civil Engineering, with Chartered status or actively working towards it. A minimum of 5 years' experience in drainage and highways design. Proficient in the use of relevant software, such as CAD and MicroDrainage. Previous experience in a consultancy environment, ideally within infrastructure sectors such as rail or power. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and present ideas confidently. Proven experience in mentoring team members and managing client relationships. Able to represent the company professionally during site visits, including outside regular working hours when required.
