Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced health professional to join our friendly multi-disciplinary Rehabilitation and Recovery Unit as the Ward Manager. This role is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, however you will be employed by Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.
The Purpose Of The Role
1. To provide holistic and person-centred care and support community patients in an acute setting.
2. The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for each inpatient.
3. To set the standards of care within the Ward and ensure that personal and professional practice contributes to overall excellence within the clinical area.
4. To lead the day to day operation of the service within the Ward taking overall responsibility for the line management of staff and the provision of high quality services.
5. To provide professional leadership and support to staff by bringing expertise in theory and practice to the ward.
6. To be responsible for the day to day management of the sub-acute wards i.e., Health and Safety issues, acting within Trust policies and procedures.
7. To maintain effective communication with various disciplines, relatives, patients and outside agencies within the clinical environment.
Main duties of the job
1. Work directly with the ward clinical team including medical staff, nurses, allied health professionals and support staff to discuss, agree and record the patient's pre-admission and current level, identify and assess patients requiring support services or advice for discharge.
2. To manage the service regularly taking charge of a shift whilst maintaining overall responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care programmes within the whole ward.
3. To be a competent practitioner, leading innovation and demonstrating clinical expertise.
4. To ensure that discharge planning commences at admission and ensures a smooth transition to home or other suitable environment.
5. To manage staff within their ward/department including specific induction, recruitment and selection, deployment, training, performance management, sickness/ absence and appraisals.
6. To ensure that nursing care satisfies the competence requirements of the NMC and Trust Policies.
7. To manage the patient case load appropriately, to include delegation of work to team members, using resources effectively, demonstrating that the service is value for money.
8. To ensure the development, production and implementation of the ward/department's objectives, in line with agreed service and financial objectives.
