Civil Engineering Undergraduate Summer Internship
Get an incredible summer experience and immerse yourself in our world. These 10 to 12-week paid internships over the summer holiday give you the opportunity to try out a discipline and see if it’s something you want to do once you graduate.
Our internships offer more than just work – they’re a chance to experience life at Babcock, meet new people, and develop skills that will enhance your future career.
What you’ll be doing
Every project we undertake matters to millions of people. As a member of the Rail Systems Alliance Scotland team, you’ll contribute to significant engineering projects across the UK, all while building skills that enhance and complement your academic studies.
Based at the Rail Systems Alliance Scotland (RSAS) Cadder depot, you’ll have the opportunity to work across various functions, managing multiple renewal projects simultaneously. You’ll provide critical support, oversee site activities, and consult with clients to help them achieve their goals.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Assisting with surveys, planning and programming of work.
* Supporting the preparation and maintenance of all records to meet contract specifications.
* Helping produce registers for management reports.
* Assisting with the costing of technical activities within track renewals projects.
* Preparing Work Package Plans.
* Providing other technical assistance as required.
What sets RSAS apart is the variety and scope of our projects. In just a short placement with us, you’ll have the opportunity to be involved in projects from start to finish, giving you a full understanding of the process behind the successful delivery of them.
In addition to your work with the renewals team, our ‘One Team’ culture fosters collaboration across technical disciplines, offering you the chance to explore and learn how different teams within RSAS contribute to shared goals. This collaborative environment ensures you gain a well-rounded perspective on how our projects come to life.
What you’ll get out of it
Our internships are about more than work experience – they’re an opportunity to immerse yourself in life at Babcock, form meaningful connections, and develop skills that will set you apart in your future career. You’ll work alongside supportive colleagues and gain guidance from experienced professionals every step of the way.
We value the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that interns bring to our team. We believe you have the potential to shape the future of our business. But we also understand that this internship is as much about you assessing what’s right for you as it is about us getting to know you. Perform well, and you could be considered for a position on our graduate programme – your journey with Babcock could just be getting started.
What you’ll need
* You must be a student who is entering their final year of a degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
* We are seeking logical thinkers who approach complex problems with creativity. You should be resourceful, diligent, and confident in managing your time effectively. Strong numerical and IT skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, are highly beneficial.
* Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
