Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust
The Mildred Creak Unit is a children's inpatient mental health unit situated within The Psychological and Mental Health Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the heart of London. The Unit cares for young people aged 7 - 14 years old with a range of severe and complex mental health difficulties.
We encourage applications from all sections of the diverse population we live in.
Applications are invited for a Permanent position of Senior Staff Nurse at Band 6. We welcome applications from Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Paediatric Nurses, and/or Learning Disability Nurse backgrounds.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to work within our dynamic multidisciplinary team. Our model of working is based on the Therapeutic Milieu. Previous experience in CAMHS is essential for this challenging and very rewarding role. You will be required to work within a team of dedicated nurses and a wide variety of other disciplines. Good communication and organisational skills are essential, as is experience with this patient group.
Main duties of the job
Supporting a structured routine for the young people offers containment to the family and young person. We recognize the benefit a structured timetable offers to staff, so we have weekly meetings at 2pm, which include nurse-led teaching, group discussion, MDT meetings, monthly team reflective meetings, and a weekly facilitated nurse support meeting.
We believe that every interaction with a young person is an opportunity to be therapeutic. Recognizing the impact of the work, alongside the weekly reflective group meetings, we support monthly individual supervision. Offering greater autonomy to the nurses provides young people with greater collaboration and empowerment opportunities in their treatment journey.
The role involves supporting junior nursing staff and encouraging their development, including staff nurses from child and mental health backgrounds, experienced therapeutic care workers, and healthcare assistants.
