Strategic Renewables Unit Policy Lead / Marine Planner HEO £33,195- Newcastle, York, Preston and Bristol Offices The Role Do you have experience in marine planning, licensing, or renewables? We are looking for a Strategic Renewables Unit (SRU) Policy Lead and a Marine Planner (HEO) to join the Marine Management Organisation (MMO). These roles play a vital part in supporting the UKs marine policies and strategies. Strategic Renewables Unit Policy Lead This role sits within the Strategic Renewables Unit but also supports colleagues in the Marine Licensing Team. You will focus on offshore wind development, particularly underwater noise, and contribute to delivering the British Energy Security Strategy. Marine Planner (HEO) As a Marine Planner, you will work within the Marine Planning Team, supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of marine plans in England. The role includes stakeholder engagement, evidence gathering, and analysis. Key Responsibilities: SRU Policy Lead Lead or contribute to specific tasks, projects and outputs in support of the MMOs contribution to delivery of the British Energy Security Strategy (BESS) in the context of the MMOs Strategy & Corporate Plan, and particularly more informed or speedier decision making. Support the SRU and MMOs activities on underwater noise, supporting improvements to marine licensing including around noise and other potential barriers to deployment of offshore wind. Support the MMOs recording and management of underwater noise via a noise tracker. You will support the running of a government and industry Development co-ordination forum. Provide support to the Senior Executive Officer (SEO) leads on noise. In doing so, you may provide support to the SEO in making the link to wider work on understanding and managing impacts in the marine environment. In collaboration with key external partners, contribute to engagement with equivalents in Defra, DESNZ, ALBs, The Crown Estate, and NGOs (e.g. The Wildlife Trusts). Where appropriate, represent the MMO on relevant groups. Has line management responsibilities. Marine Planner (HEO) Support the development and implementation of workstreams working in collaboration with the workstream leads and project managers. Manage performance through objective setting and staff development. Ensure the health, safety and well-being of team members. Contribute to managing sustainability efforts across the team, leading by example. Contribute to the development of technical skills and knowledge in the Marine Planning Team. Evidence and analysis - to form the evidence base for marine plans, including for reporting and integration with statutory assessments. The use of decision support tools by the marine planning team, such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Developmental elements of the marine planning process. Procure and deliver Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulations Assessments for marine plans. The Person Good understanding of one or more of marine renewables, marine planning, marine licensing, marine management more widely through direct and/or applied experience. Good analytical skills, experience of working with and interpreting data and evidence, and understanding of relevant tools or methods. Good stakeholder relationship and networking skills, with experience of managing the expectations of stakeholders with conflicting needs and demands, and working with government officials and other delivery bodies. Understanding if not experience of applying policy or technical guidance to delivery on the ground through planning or decision-making. Ability to communicate clearly (written, verbal) to specialists and non-specialists at all levels. Good understanding of presenting information using digital platforms. Excellent technical and IT abilities.
