The Trust is investing in and developing Acute Medicine to ensure that the service continues to respond effectively to patient demand and delivers the highest quality of service. As such, we are seeking to recruit a Clinical Director to join the team.
Acute Medicine works closely with the Emergency Medicine team and all medical specialties, and you will be involved in the development of clinical pathways to improve patient outcomes.
You, along with our team of 8 Acute Physicians, will be responsible for the care of patients on our 28-bedded Medical Assessment Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and Short Stay (Charnley) Unit. You will be supported by a full multi-disciplinary team, which includes a junior medical team and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
You should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in Acute Medicine, and preferably possess CCT in Acute Medicine, or General Medicine with a specialty interest.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Clinical Director, who is a consultant physician in Acute Medicine. The Clinical Director will lead the directorate management team (General Manager and Matron), enabling the delivery of outstanding services in accordance with agreed objectives, quality standards, controls, and resource constraints as set out in the business plans for the services delivered by the directorate.
The Clinical Director will play a key role in the development of the directorate's strategic vision and will lead the directorate's patient safety/quality, financial, and other activity standards. The role will always be guided by our Trust values. The Clinical Director will be accountable to the Divisional Director.
This post also carries the normal decision-making responsibilities of any Consultant appointment. You will specifically see patients referred to the Acute service and take clinical responsibility for decision-making of treatment for patients under their care. This will include involvement and shared decision-making with other clinical groups (nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers, etc.) and non-clinical groups including management. You will be expected to support and instruct the decision-making of junior colleagues from an educational and care delivery point of view.
