Health & Safety Manager - Packaging
Location: Leeds / Bradford

Role:
To support the implementation of the H&S strategy and programs; to champion and oversee the adoption and deployment of robust occupational health & safety management systems; to ensure that the site remains compliant with all applicable H&S legislation; to manage a program of internal H&S audits and accreditations; to provide appropriate advice and counsel to site management. Following the implementation of policies, projects, and initiatives in Bradford site, the role holder will cascade information and share good (and common) practice with other manufacturing sites within the group.
1. Assist with the delivery and implementation of the global and Divisional H&S strategy across the site
2. Provide support to Senior Management and act as the key point of contact on all aspects of H&S Management
3. Develop and ensure the robustness of the management systems which support BS OHSAS 18001
4. Create and drive good practice / policy deployment / training requirements across the site
5. Provide support for the evaluation of training needs, develop and advise on site-specific H&S training in core H&S subjects - e.g. MH, COSHH, Risk Assessments
6. Work with external providers to ensure robust and timely management and assessment of key hazards - e.g. Noise, Fire
7. Work with site management to drive action plans resulting from these external assessments
8. Oversee and conduct site H&S Audits as per the agreed programme and work with management to drive resulting action plans through to their conclusion
9. Ensure good practice and lessons learnt from incidents are shared across the Group
10. Contribute to management review meetings, as and when necessary
11. Assist with the development of company H&S standards, procedures and guidance through consultation with the workforce and operational management
12. Collate and produce a standard monthly H&S Report on site performance
13. Review Employer’s Liability Claims and Worker’s Compensation Claims for the Bradford site and work alongside the management team in assessing and dealing with claims
14. Oversee statutory visits and Investigations
15. Ensure the Company maintains an effective working relationship with enforcement agencies, the local community and other interested stakeholders (TU’s), taking any opportunity to enhance these working relationships
16. Pursue Continual Professional Development in line with departmental performance objectives and act as a mentor for site H&S Champions
Requirements:
1. Packaging industry experience - ideally print or packaging manufacturing
2. Manufacturing experience
3. Experience in the implementation of external accreditation (ISO 50001, etc.)
4. Significant experience in a health and safety role in manufacturing and/or distribution
5. Educated to NEBOSH standard as a minimum
6. Experience in the implementation of external accreditation audit processes (OHSAS 18001)
7. Able to develop & deliver internal H&S audits
8. Able to support the delivery of the H&S strategy and programs across the site
9. Drive to deliver continuous improvement across all H&S KPIs within the site
10. Committed, enthusiastic individual, capable of calm and methodical discharge of duties
11. Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, combined with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
12. Ability to work with IT personnel in developing/maintaining in-house systems
13. Numerate and analytical, capable of working on own initiative and interfacing with people at all levels within the business
14. Ability to leverage internal and external networks and relationships to deliver cultural change
