Job Overview
Fixed term, one day a week and remote working opportunity in a pilot working with patients with Type 1 diabetes and disordered eating.
This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical psychologist to join a new pilot service for supporting adults with type 1 diabetes and disordered eating (T1DE) living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The vacancy has arisen due to maternity leave and the service has already gained benefit from the input of a psychologist, and they are very keen to ensure this continues. The role can be done virtually if necessary and the team are very flexible.
This is one of only seven services in the country to have been awarded funding by NHS England. This is a initially a short term contract to the end of March, working one day a week, with a likely extension to March 2025 and the potential for further extension. The Type 1 diabetes service, which the T1DE service falls under at University Hospitals Leicester, is led by Prof Pratik Choudhary, who holds a national and international profile in type 1 diabetes management.
You will work closely with a highly skilled diabetes multidisciplinary team across a range of tasks, such as providing specialist assessment and psychological therapy to those with diabetes and disordered eating. There are opportunities to contribute to furthering local team understanding of T1DE, as well as supporting training in the diabetes team you will primarily be working into. They will also have the opportunity to have training and CPD opportunities through the wider T1DE network of practitioners.
The post holder will be supported by the Medical Psychology Service. The department is friendly, supportive, and flexible. The team includes clinical psychologists, counselling and health psychologists, trainees, assistants, and excellent admin/clerical support. We place great emphasis on supervision and personal development, which is possible through working within a psychology department. We meet regularly for case presentations, clinical governance, and business meetings. We also have a monthly peer group meeting and regular time-out to enable reflection and service development. We have a team base at Leicester General Hospital, although also work at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital.
Leicester is a thriving multi-cultural city with good arts and sporting facilities that enjoys excellent motorway links to other major cities and easy access to the surrounding countryside.
For an informal discussion please contact Laura Ambrose (Consultant Clinical Psychologist) or Natalie Salimi (T1DE Clincal Psychologist) on 0116 295 4555.
