The Justice First Fellowship (JFF) is a prestigious scheme established by The Legal Education Foundation to support the next generation of social justice lawyers who want to pursue a career in social welfare law. As a JFF at Luton Law Centre, you will complete your legal training and development needed to qualify as a solicitor specialising in social welfare law. The cost of any mandatory training to qualify will also be covered. You will also develop a project in collaboration with us and benefit from professional development and wider skills training via the JFF.
Luton Law Centre is an independent legal advice agency that specialises in social welfare law. We are members of the Law Centres Network and Advice UK. We strive for a just and equal society where everyone’s rights are valued and protected. We do this by providing legal support, services, information, and education to the diverse communities of Luton and its surrounding areas. As a registered charity, it is our purpose to alleviate poverty and to improve access to services. We provide free specialist legal advice and assistance, casework, and representation in housing, immigration, asylum, and community care law through grant funding and our legal aid contracts. You will have the opportunity to work, under supervision, on a range of cases in all these areas of law and represent clients at court.
Applicants for the Fellowship positions must meet the following criteria:
1. To have completed and passed (or expected to pass by 14 March 2025) the LPC or SQE1.
2. To be able to commit to remaining for the duration of the two-year Fellowship.
3. To be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for and a commitment to social justice and social welfare law.
