Callen-Lenz is developing the next generation of autopilots, mission and vehicle management systems for increasingly large Unmanned Airborne Systems that fly increasingly critical missions. The role includes everything from hands on software development on target hardware, being an architect for whole autopilot functionality and leading an integrated project that covers all the components of an autopilot. Responsibilities Be the technical authority for the airborne embedded software discipline. Oversee the design, implementation, and V&V activities for all design assured airborne software products. Leading integrated project teams across the autopilot function that covers system architecture, hardware, embedded software and bought-in equipment, e.g sensors and actuation. Set and agree capability roadmaps within the team. Work with the Engineering Manager to ensure the consistent delivery of the function output Organise and prepare design reviews. Collaboration with stakeholders to define and implement software and modelling requirements. Support Project Managers in scoping, defining, and estimating project tasks. Shaping software and modelling architectures. Work closely with other Team Leads to align goals and maximise efficiency. Definition of software design documentation and coding standards. Mentoring and coaching of team members in the use of software, and modelling development tools and techniques. Ensure sufficient test coverage is in place. Ad Hoc Duties: Perform other tasks and support the wider software team as required About You Qualifications Educated to degree level in a computing related subject Skills and competencies Essential Significant experience working as a Senior or Principal embedded software engineer on complex systems A proven track record of developing, documenting and deploying DO178C DAL A and DAL B software. Experience of designing, developing and documenting complex software. Knowledge of a variety of programming and modelling languages and tools. Extensive understanding of real time and embedded software. Mentoring and coaching software engineers Desirable Experience working in defence or other highly regulated / security conscious environment Previous experience or interest in drones, aviation or other highly regulated industry Knowledge of safety related engineering practices. Background of aeronautics and control systems. Line management experience.
