WHAT TO EXPECT
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Patent Attorney who is keen to develop an in-house career and join JLR’s IP Pillar, which is part of the Legal & Compliance Chapter and covers all areas of vehicle technology.
This role provides the opportunity to work closely with the business to protect JLR’s innovation by supporting the preparation and filing of patents and prosecuting patent applications in the UK and overseas. The role also offers opportunities to advise the business on freedom to operate, identify and challenge unauthorized use of JLR’s patent portfolio, and support senior attorneys in defending the company against threats or litigation related to patent infringement.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
1. Participate in reviewing draft claims sets prepared by outside counsel.
2. Strategic prosecution of patent applications filed by JLR across all technology areas, including supporting the drafting process.
3. Prepare instructions for the prosecution of foreign patent applications and work with counsel in foreign jurisdictions to improve best practices.
4. Participate in Oral Examination Hearings.
5. Draft FTO opinions and provide FTO advice to the business.
6. Review competitor products and identify third-party use of JLR Patents.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1. Single or Dual Qualified Patent Attorney.
2. Experience drafting and prosecuting patents in the fields of electronics and AI (preferable).
3. Extensive experience in prosecuting patent applications in key jurisdictions, especially the UK, EP, and US.
4. Ability to review patent applications prepared by others and provide feedback.
5. Ability to review prosecution responses prepared by others and provide feedback.
6. Ability to monitor, analyze, and explain the impact of any changes to the requirements for patent applications (legal or commercial).
7. Ability to quickly understand new and different technologies.
