RESPONSIBLE FOR: Bar Staff/Floor Staff
REPORTS TO: Bar Manager / Assistant Bar Manager / Operations Manager
Job purpose: Supervise service and bar staff, as well as service guests within the bar to maximise guest satisfaction and beverage profitability. All work is carried out in line with the Resort’s guidelines and the beverage sales and marketing plan.
Main duties:
* Ensure that guests receive quality service by providing work direction for bar staff.
* Supervises bar staff, verifying that their workstations are stocked neat and orderly.
* Ensures that the bar is ready for guests by checking overall condition of bar regularly.
* Ensures that bar premises is in neat and orderly condition at all times.
* Provides guests with quality service by monitoring staff assignments and responsiveness.
* Performs all service duties of the bar.
* Coaches staff to achieve bar revenue goals.
* Actively pushes high profit beverage items, and informs staff of such to increase sales.
* Greets guests, and makes sure that they receive prompt, courteous and efficient service.
* Seeks appropriate opportunities to communicate with guests to personalise the bar service.
* Keeps bar premises, silver, glass, porcelain etc clean and in good working order.
* Ensures readiness and compliance among all staff.
* Utilises supervisory skills, effective communication, and motivation to maximise employee productivity and satisfaction.
LAW, REGULATIONS AND POLICIES
* Monitors and makes sure staff follows all applicable laws, especially in regards to food and safety regulations, and alcohol legislation.
HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
* Checks that staff meet and exceed guest expectations by training and inspiring staff on the job to provide Customer Care Service.
* Identifies, and if asked by Bar Manager to carry out skills training to provide consistent, knowledgeable and reliable service.
* Proactively coaches effective employee relations between kitchen production and restaurant service.
* Look for ways to motivate and challenge employees.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
* Reports all potential and real hazards immediately.
* Fully understands the hotel’s fire, emergency and bomb procedures.
* Ensures that emergency procedures are enforced to provide for the security and safety of guests and employees.
* Coaches employees to work in a safe manner that does not harm or injure self or others.
* Anticipates possible and probable hazards and conditions and either corrects them or takes action to prevent them from happening.
* Ensures that the highest standard of personal hygiene, dress, uniform, appearance, body language and conduct is maintained by all employees in the department.
MISCELLANEOUS
* To work pro-actively to minimise complaints from guests.
* Stays abreast of applicable liquor laws, hotel rules and restaurant limitations.
* Checks that all food and beverage sales are registered and paid for appropriately.
* Checks the restaurant reservations to be aware of VIP guests and uses name when appropriate.
* Attends meetings and training required by the Bar Manager.
* Accepts flexible work schedule necessary for uninterrupted service to hotel guests.
* Maintains own working area, materials and company property clean, tidy and in good shape; reports defective materials and equipment to Bar Manager.
* May be required to carry out additional duties not listed to suit the business demands.
* Continuously seeks to endeavour and improve knowledge of the following:
* Hotel fire, bomb and emergency procedures.
* Hotel health and safety policies and procedures.
* Hotel facilities and nearby sights of interest and importance (hospitals, stations, tourist sights).
* Current alcohol and liquor licensing.
* Accepted methods of payment by the hotel.

Desired Criteria
* Have a positive sales attitude.
* Food Handlers Certificate.
* First Aid Certificate.
* Previous experience dealing with large functions eg weddings.
* Knowledge of wines and spirits.
Required Criteria
* Can take full responsibility for the bar in the absence of Bar Manager/Assistant Bar Manager.
* Strong interpersonal communication skills with an outgoing personality.
* Confident, patient, friendly, sociable and reliable.
* Ability to work well under pressure within a team.
* Has a positive approach to directions – giving and taking.
* Has ability to prioritise, plan, organise and demonstrate attention to detail.
* 2 year’s previous experience in either the hospitality industry or a bar/restaurant.
* Previous Cash Handling and cash reconciliation experience.
* Have excellent leadership abilities and can supervise a busy bar team.
* Be able to supervise and train staff as required with the ability to motivate the team.
* Be able to work on own initiative in a fast-paced environment.
* A result driven approach with the ability to meet/exceed deadlines.
* Able and willing to work at short notice if required.
* Smart and presentable appearance.
