Central is currently recruiting for a Senior Mental Health Support Worker, to work in the Camden area. The service is a specialist supported accommodation service for young people with mental health and complex needs.
The successful candidate will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, working Monday – Friday, covering early (7:45AM – 3:45PM), mid (10AM – 6PM) and late (2PM - 10PM) shifts. This role is mainly early shifts with mid and late shifts to be covered once or twice a week. Temporary cover is required for approximately 3 months. The pay rate is £16.00 per hour, with £2.41 holiday pay, totalling £18.41 per hour.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the effective and safe management of the project on a day to day basis.
2. Provide support and supervision to 2-3 Progression Coaches, identifying training and development needs and promoting and supporting their engagement in Reflective Practice.
3. Manage referrals and admissions of young people to the service including participation in advance multi-agency planning for moves into the service (for example on discharge from Tier 4 CAMHS in-patient services) and managing emergency referrals.
4. Establish supportive, psychologically informed relationships with young people and deal with difficult situations in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
5. Ensure Safeguarding procedures are followed and managed appropriately, reporting any relevant issues in accordance with project procedures in a timely manner.
6. Hold case management responsibilities for identified young people. Complete needs and risk assessments and create risk and Support Plans.
7. Lead reviews of assessments and plans including both planned periodic reviews and those in response to incidents and sudden changes in needs and/or risks.
8. Contribute to the development and maintenance of partnerships with appropriate statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure access to services for young people; working towards coordinated and client centred service delivery across agencies.
9. Be involved with the project team in the preparation of reports, statistics and other papers that may be required by the Project Manager or Area Director.
10. Ensure that any repairs and maintenance are carried out in a timely manner in order to ensure the safety and security of the building environment.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Significant experience working with children and young people with complex needs whose behaviour is personally challenging.
2. An understanding of the needs of people who have experienced homelessness, poor mental health, substance use.
3. Experience of supervising staff.
4. Experience of managing a caseload, completing key working sessions, using Risk Assessments and Support Planning.
5. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and boundaries with young people.
6. Ability to provide a therapeutic environment which contributes to young people’s health development (including sexual).
7. Significant experience working in partnership with a multi-agency team including social workers and mental health professionals.
8. Understanding and commitment to working in an assets based way.
9. Commitment to promoting an environment which has the highest regard for the Health and Safety of others and clear understanding of safeguarding requirements and procedures.
Further Requirements:
1. Current valid right to work in the UK.
2. Minimum 12 months’ of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise).
3. A fully enhanced DBS either registered on the DBS update service or issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £56).
4. Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process.
