We have an exciting opportunity to join #TeamEMR as a Financial Accountant. In this role, you will support the Senior Financial Accounting Manager on Financial Accounting tasks including balance sheet reviews, Transport UK group reporting, tax compliance and statutory reporting (including working with our auditors) - ensuring that all reporting requirements are met in a timely, accurate and meaningful manner. As well as supporting the Senior Financial Accounting Manager, the role is intended to be flexible and provide support to the Financial Controller and wider finance team where necessary.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support the completion of periodic group reporting requirements, including but not limited to, balance sheet reconciliation reviews, Group periodic reporting and External stakeholder reporting.
2. Interact with the business to collate KPI's as required for Group and Internal reporting requirements, and implement continuous improvements of this process.
3. Support the completion of Group and Statutory audits, including external and internal Group auditor and Group finance requests.
4. Work with the Financial Accountants as part of a team to complete queries from external auditors EY, Tax consultants Deloitte, Account preparers Deloitte and other external parties as required.
5. Work with the Financial Accountants as part of a team to ensure tax compliance is monitored and returns completed in line with regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, P11D's, PSA, SAO, VAT.
6. Provide cover within the team to ensure all deliverables are completed accurately on time.
7. Support the control of minimum financial controls within EMR and ensure continuous process reviews and improvements are implemented as directed by the Senior Financial Accounting Manager and Financial Controller.
8. Support the Financial Controller with process reviews, and work with operational managers to implement process improvements, controls and policies, to ensure key financial controls are in place to mitigate financial risks across EMR. This includes, but is not limited to, credit cards, fuel cards, expenses and stock processes.
9. Support the Senior Financial Accounting Manager to ensure all ONS surveys are responded to within the required deadlines.
10. Support the Financial Controller in the management of the internal Delegated Financial Authority ('DFA') process within EMR.
11. Work alongside colleagues within Transport UK Group to ensure intercompany balances being reported are reconciled periodically and annually.
12. The above list is not exhaustive, and the role may need to undertake other requirements as requested by their line manager the Senior Financial Accounting Manager or the Financial Controller, in line with grade and competence.
Skills and experience needed
1. Qualified Accountant (preferably ACA)
2. Educated to degree level or similar work placed qualification, with strong analytical skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Experience in auditing is desirable
4. Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organisation, and cross functional.
5. Experience in management reporting processes, and the completion of statutory audits.
6. Experience in conducting financial policy and financial control reviews, and implementing improvements in line with industry guidelines.
7. Attention to detail and time management skills essential.
8. Excellent communication ability, able to tailor style to the audience including frequent communication with senior leaders.
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
