Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated pharmacist to join the fabulous NEL ICB Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation team for a 10 month 0.8 WTE Maternity Leave Cover post for Head of Medicines Commissioning and Transformation. The team works as a multi-disciplinary group of individuals, who operate with a broad range of skills and experience. We are key enablers for collaboration and integration across all health and social care partners in the NEL Integrated Care System. As a team player you will be supported to fully commit to this way of working, especially with regards to transformational work with medicines and pharmacy.
We are looking for a keen individual with an eye for detail who can help shape the medicines commissioning and contracting agenda across NEL. The role will require effective matrix working across the pharmacy and medicines optimisation team to co-ordinate the delivery of efficiencies, people support, strategic workforce transformation and medicines optimisation projects and programmes. The postholder will bring expert and highly specialist knowledge of pharmacy and medicines optimisation to deliver and monitor transformational and improvement strategies, in a complex and ever-changing environment.
Main duties of the job
The NEL Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation team is working to achieve equitable access and outcomes of medicines for local people across North East London, working with a wide range of stakeholders and professionals to deliver outputs for our residents that support cost effective, safe prescribing with access to evidence-based medicines.
You will be responsible for supporting the NEL Medicines Value Group to ensure the identification of opportunities to extract best value from expenditure on medicines, sharing best practice, benchmarking and monitoring key objectives in the delivery of financial performance against medicines use and outcomes across the system. The post holder will also lead on the national medicines optimisation opportunities, projects and transformation plans ensuring co-ordination of strategic plans, engagement and delivery across the Team, between Directorates and with NEL partners.
Joining our team will give you the support and opportunity to further develop your abilities as a senior leader, as you navigate working across both the ICB Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team and the wider ICS.

Person specification
Education / Qualifications
* Educated to degree level in Pharmacy – MPharm (Master’s)
* Competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
* Post-graduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent knowledge and experience
Experience
* Extensive, community and/or hospital pharmacy experience
* Extensive experience of leading on transformational projects
* Significant experience of contract negotiations especially in relation to medicines
* Experience of using quality improvement methodologies to bring about change
* Significant experience of successfully managing specialist teams
Knowledge
* Knowledge of commissioning frameworks for drugs
* Very good knowledge of financial systems e.g. monitoring budget management, processing invoices and procurement
