Job Opportunity: Engineer/Mechanic
Due to continued expansion and restructuring at our yard, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineer/Mechanic to join our busy team. You will be predominantly based at our site at Streethay Wharf on the outskirts of Lichfield.
The job role will require you to occasionally travel to our sister site in Derby and to attend breakdowns on the canal in our area. The role requires a flexible and quick-thinking individual with a skill set to match as the role is varied and interesting.
The ideal candidate would possess some of the following qualifications:
1. Excellent customer service skills
2. Some experience of working with narrowboats (helpful but not essential)
3. Experience in the repair, service, and maintenance of engines (i.e., basic compression and ignition diesels with 12v electric systems)
4. Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of AC/DC electrical systems
5. Knowledge of gas systems (useful but not essential)
6. Knowledge of plumbing (helpful but not essential)
7. Confidence when giving advice and speaking to customers in a professional manner
8. A passion for the job and ensuring work is completed to a high standard
9. Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle for commuting
Specific training will be provided for the successful candidate, and there is also the opportunity for extra training should you wish to pursue this.
This is a part-time role, offering 32 hours a week during the summer season and 30 hours during the winter season, including alternating Saturdays. Depending on the business needs, there may be the opportunity for this role to develop into a full-time position, based on 37.5 hours in the winter and 40 hours in the summer.
Salary: Up to £28,300 depending on experience
