BAND 6 SPECIALIST NURSE, THORACIC SPECIALIST NURSES - 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join our friendly thoracic specialist nursing team. You will need to be flexible, a team player, and demonstrate a commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice. As part of the team, you will play an integral role in supporting lung cancer patients throughout their cancer journey, promoting clinical excellence and the ongoing development of the service.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Undertake comprehensive health needs assessment of patients, reassessing as appropriate.
2. Run nurse-led thoracic clinic.
3. Assess, plan, prioritise, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions to meet patients’ needs.
4. Contribute to the organisation of multi-disciplinary, patient-centred care.
5. Facilitate patients and carers to take an active role in care given.
6. Responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in their specialty.
7. Able to interpret information and take appropriate action and lead others to do so.
8. Promote practice sensitive to the needs of patients and families from multi-cultural backgrounds.
9. Advise and support patients to manage their symptoms.
10. Attend Consultant-led outpatient clinics, manage and report on cases (as appropriate to the role).
11. Communicate with clinicians as necessary.
12. Contribute to and support the work of colleagues in the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
13. Plan systems of nursing activity, which satisfy agreed standards at Local, Trust, or National levels.
14. Coordinate, as appropriate, the multi-disciplinary team in discharge planning.
15. Ensure all medication is administered in accordance with the Trust Medicines Management policy.
16. Demonstrate the mandatory competencies of the Trust, attending all required mandatory updates.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Evidence of relevant post qualification study at postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge
Experience
* Nurse - minimum 2 years at Band 5 in the relevant thoracic setting
* Evidence of working independently
* Evidence of managing within a clinical area
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary team
* Evidence of relevant CPD
* Working with students
* Evidence of undertaking project work
* Participating in audit/patient surveys
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
