Practice Manager - Abbey Medical Practice
Due to the pending retirement of our current Practice Manager, we are looking for a highly accomplished, motivated, and proactive Manager with a demonstrable background in business and people management, patient services, finance and strategic planning.
Main duties of the job
Candidates should have excellent communications skills, be confident with office-level IT and have a experience in successfully managing and developing teams and the individual staff within them in order to deliver against key NHS targets and contracts. The successful candidate will be responsible for organisational leadership, service improvement, and delivery of consistently high standards across the full range of clinical and administrative areas within the Practice. A high degree of personal organisational ability is required as well as a systematic approach to problem-solving and planning. Relevant experience of the Primary Care environment would be an advantage.

Job responsibilities
Working alongside the Partners and supported by an excellent administrative and clinical team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day smooth running of this busy, steadily growing Practice. You will also have the vision, flexibility and drive to adapt and lead the Practice in the new ways of working within Primary Care Networks and wider Integrated Care systems.
Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
* Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage day-to-day operations, human resources, and financial oversight.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with partners, staff, patients, and external advisors.
* Proficient in using practice management software and handling IT-related tasks (e.g., data entry, security).
* Ability to develop and implement strategic plans to ensure the practices compliance and growth.
* Advanced skills in financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic financial planning.
* Project management and change management skills, especially in adapting to NHS policy changes.
Qualifications
* Relevant qualifications in practice management, healthcare management, or a related field (e.g., NVQ, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree) or equivalent professional experience.
* Knowledge of healthcare regulations, policies, and the NHS structure.
* Further qualifications in financial management or human resources (HR).
* Training in information governance and data protection (e.g., GDPR compliance)
Experience
* Significant experience in managing or supervising staff within a healthcare or similar environment.
* Experience in financial management, including payroll, VAT submissions, and working with accountants.
* Proven ability to handle HR responsibilities such as recruitment, staff appraisals, and disciplinary matters.
* Experience in implementing IT systems and managing data security.
* Experience working directly with NHS systems and contracts.
* Involvement in strategic planning and growth initiatives in a healthcare setting.
* Experience in working with patient participation groups and managing patient feedback.
