Job summary – What to expect: We have an exciting opportunity for a Principle Facilities Engineering Lead to join our Central Engineering and Facilities team. In this role you will be able to lead complex equipment and process related activities, which are cross functional in nature, in order to either maintain or improve manufacturing performance. You will be seen as a technical expert globally and will often support activities in other manufacturing sites in a role as global SME. You will be responsible for technical training and mentoring of engineers in their field of expertise. You will get the opportunity to be involved in wider business projects. Specifically: Technical Excellence Regarded both internally and externally to the business as a key leader for Engineering Support and Change Deliver robust and technically excellent solutions. Meet the agreed technical specifications for all defined activities. Ensure their technical knowledge and capability remains at the leading edge in their discipline. Also have a good/widespread understanding of contact lens manufacture outside of their specialist field such that the impact/implications in deployment of technical solutions is appreciated and also so improvement opportunities outside of their specialist field could also be readily identified. Act as mentor and coach/train other staff where appropriate. Have a good understanding of the market and/or clinical performance aspects of current Products and that their support may impact Technology development To lead and provide the appropriate technical input to the Control, Stabilisation, improvement, development and implementation of breakthroughs in Process and Product effectiveness and Efficiency and support delivery of new technologies that will provide significant business benefits. Apply, communicate and monitor technical standards to ensure highest quality work on all projects as appropriate. Ensure that appropriate Health, Safety and Ergonomic principals are incorporated into all activities as appropriate. Help maintain the technical knowledge base of the company & ensure that it is readily accessible by project teams. Support the team environment for the continual development and deployment of technical knowledge. Work with Engineers and colleagues to investigate and exploit new technologies Be fully conversant with current planning and organisational models in order to predict the best possible outcome to a solution/proposal prior to any major investment. Managing Projects Liaise with customer to develop detailed project requirements and a detailed project plan which is agreed and meets the requirements of budget, time and deliverables. Negotiate resource requirements to ensure the project meets quality, cost and delivery objectives. Ensuring on time delivery of technology development projects and working with project teams to ensure timely delivery of projects. Develop and execute project communication plans which could include Stakeholder meetings, RACI matrix, Technical reports, Conference and Web ex calls. Managing vendors Support the establishment and development of effective Vendor management activities and work to resolve material and equipment variance where it impacts operational capability. Support the development and maintenance of all technical specifications and of full scope of supply being available to and adhered to by vendors impacting the Business Unit. Ensure that completed Non- Disclosure Agreements are in place Business relationships Establish and maintain relationships with other departments/vendors Demonstrate technical excellence to other departments/areas and ensure technical issues are resolved promptly and satisfactorily to all stakeholders. Be recognised globally within the business as an expert authority in operational support and development Engineering Managing Budgets/Costs Development of effective justifications for Improvement, Capital and Development Projects. Manage the expenditure of projects, with monthly cash flow reporting, of project typically up to a value of $500,000. Quality Management Be conversant with the business quality systems and possess a full understanding of the product/process development path/cycle within the business Ensure that projects and technical solutions comply with Quality Management Systems in the present and future. Maintain project design history files and controlled documentation where appropriate to a project. Ensure effective transfer of new technology into production and compliance to quality and business needs. Processes an excellent understanding of Process, Equipment and Software Validation and Risk Management, and able to lead appropriate decision making in line with business expectations. Continuous Improvement Demonstrate good knowledge and practice of continuous improvement techniques and Six Sigma (or equivalent) in the projects and the deployment of technical solutions/improvements. Support and promote the use of Structured Problem-solving techniques and Coopervision methods for Project and Change management. Support Global improvement and development initiatives relevant to the Business Unit or strategic product families. Develop Key Performance Indicators that enable process and product performance to be determined Travel will be mainly UK but with the possibility of no more than 5% Global A full job description is available upon request.
