Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a dedicated Key Worker to join our team at the Discovery Education Centre, supporting students aged 6 to 16 on a 1:1 basis. We also offer educational programmes to post-16 students (up to age 25) if working with older students is your preference! This is a unique role where you will help shape their learning experience through individualised plans and engaging, fun activities. This position offers working hours from 9:00 to 15:00 during school term time only, with the added benefit of being paid throughout the school holidays!
Key Responsibilities:
* 1:1 Support: Work closely with a Post-16 student, providing tailored support in line with their SEN/SEMH needs and individualised learning plan (ILP). It is likely the role will focus on construction.
* Educational Support: Assist the student with schoolwork, guiding them through their construction BTEC and ensuring they reach their educational goals.
* Behavioural Guidance: Manage and support students who may exhibit behavioural challenges, using patience and understanding to foster positive development.
* Engaging Activities: In addition to academic support, you’ll take part in a range of activities designed to be both fun and therapeutic for the student, such as cinema trips, mountain biking, football, and other recreational activities that help students unwind and enjoy themselves outside of structured learning.
* Collaborative Planning: Work closely with teaching staff, SEN specialists, and parents/guardians to develop and review the student’s individual learning plan.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
* Experience working with children or young adults within an educational setting, preferably with SEN/SEMH needs.
* Has a background or knowledge of construction.
* Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills to manage students with behavioural challenges.
* An understanding of the importance of creating a balanced routine of education and fun activities to support the student's overall development.
* Ability to build strong relationships with both students and their families to ensure consistent, supportive care.
* A proactive, adaptable approach, able to handle both academic and activity-based tasks.
* Basic knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies (training will be provided).
Why Join Us?
