Senior CAMHS LAC Professional Lead - Band 7
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in Barking & Dagenham. Working with CAMHs and across targeted services to meet the significant needs of our looked-after children population, making a difference to their lived experience and providing them with tools to enter adult life healthy and well-adapted.
The post holder will ensure best practice of clinical standards within the triage and pathway functions of community CAMHS, working closely with other healthcare professionals within the CAMHS multidisciplinary team in line with the I-Thrive framework of supporting children and young people in delivering care and support.
The post holder will be a registered professional (nurse, social worker, or allied health professional) with experience working with children in care. They will undertake and support assessments and brief interventions for Looked After children within CAMHS triage capacity and work with the multidisciplinary team and Multi-Agency Partners.
They will ensure the delivery of the LAC care pathway and the prioritization of assessments of looked-after children within CAMHS and in conjunction with the LAC team.
The Post holder will supervise students in their final year of placement within the service.
Main duties of the job
* Prioritize own workload and ensure CIC referrals are appropriately prioritized, liaising with the LAC nursing team / Paediatricians for effective communication and collaboration.
* Offer support, clinical advice, and guidance to the team regarding treatment of children in care.
* Undertake assessments of children in care and their support network to identify and meet mental health and wellbeing needs, via telephone and face-to-face consultations, and attend professional meetings as appropriate.
* Offer brief interventions, advice, and guidance to children and their support networks.

This post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,551, maximum £5,735 per annum).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Support development of an effective team and productive relationships within the Trust and with local authority social care teams.
* Promote integrated health and social care working to support children in care.
* Participate in staff appraisals and supervisions and deputize for pathway leads as needed.
* Supervise students and ensure quality supervision and support.
* Attend LAC/CAMHS meetings fortnightly for effective communication.
* Lead education and awareness on LAC mental health developments.
Clinical Skills
* Act as an autonomous, registered practitioner accountable for own actions, guided by professional codes and Trust protocols.
* Maintain high standards of care, initiate referrals, and support children and their families with information and education.
* Ensure practice is evidence-based, supported by research, and aligned with national guidance.
* Provide clinical support and direction to junior team members.
* Demonstrate legal literacy regarding the MCA 2005 and support team understanding to avoid delays.
* Maintain expert clinical assessment skills and promote community-based care to reduce hospital admissions.
* Work collaboratively with other professionals and partner agencies, ensuring effective liaison and communication.
* Participate in child protection and clinical supervision in line with Trust policies.
* Promote understanding of risks and harm to vulnerable children and young people, including exposure to external risks.

Qualifications
* A registered social worker

Experience
* Substantial experience working with children and young people with mental health needs
* Experience working with Children in Care
* Experience supporting user engagement and co-production
Knowledge
* Awareness of NHS Long Term Plan and priorities
* Understanding of mental health concerns affecting children in care and relevant policies and guidance, including safeguarding legislation
* Knowledge of IG and Data Protection Act
Skills
