Job summary Applications are invited for Consultant posts in Gastroenterology with a specialist interest in IBD, based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. This post has arisen due to a retirement. The successful applicant will join a team that consists of 5 Gastroenterologists currently, each of whom has a major sub-specialty interest, with a further expansion in the coming months with plans to advertise for an additional 2 posts. Applicants should be on the GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining a CCT in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at the time of the interview. Terms and conditions are offered under the terms of the NHS Wales Medical and Dental Conditions of Service. The contract will be offered on a 10 session basis pending job planning discussions. The post holder will be employed through Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) and be based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Main duties of the job A wide experience of Gastroenterology, IBD and General Medicine will be required. With the appointment of this post the department will have a total of 5 Gastroenterologists, two Gastroenterology Specialist Registrars, and 4-6 resident doctors. There are Clinical Nurse Specialists in Hepatology (3), IBD (2) and Nutrition (3). There are 4 Clinical Endoscopists. The department receives additional support from site-specific Cancer Clinical Nurse specialists. The Endoscopy Unit is a centre for Bowel Cancer Screening. Wrexham Maelor Hospital is the Upper GI cancer Centre for North Wales. The post holder may be required to contribute to the acute medical take, and there are plans for participation in an Upper GI bleed rota. One of the main drivers for this post is the delivery of Gastroenterology services to the local population as well as the opportunity to undertake service development. In addition to facilitating the expansion of specialist and community hospital outpatient portfolio there will be opportunities to develop additional subspecialty interests complementary to those of the Consultant team.
