Job Overview The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Dermatology. The post is to reflect the needs of the Dermatology Department and to support the Medical, Nursing and Management Team to meet service needs Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be responsible, in collaboration with consultants and senior trainees, in the management of patients in the Dermatology department. It is expected, according to identified training needs the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop skills and experiences according to the current curriculum. The postholder will participate in the full activities of the department. To participate in audit and educational activities Attendance at local, regional and national training courses will be encouraged. Study leave is granted in accordance with the national Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales). Continuation of an applicant’s existing research, involvement in current departmental research and development of new projects will be strongly encouraged. Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service to observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust. Working for our organisation The Department of Dermatology is an integrated out patient/day patient department. The department has three specifically designated and designed dermatological surgery including extracted ventilation systems suitable for minor operations and ‘see and treat’ clinics. This is a progressive busy department which developed considerably over recent years encompassing a more comprehensive allergy service.The successful candidate will have access to a shared office with his/her own desk and personal computer. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities This is a fixed term post for one year in the first instance. Dr Zaman will be mentor/line manager for the successful candidate. The duties of the post will be to provide care for patients working with the department of Dermatology. This is a full time post assisting in Out Patient Clinics and Dermatology Surgery lists under the supervision of the Consultant Dermatologists. There is an expectation that depending on capability and previous experience that full clinics will be achieved. A full clinic is 4 new patients and 8 follow up. Dermatology surgery lists consist of skin biopsies and simple excisions, however this will vary dependent on the level of experience and the requirements of the service. 8 clinical sessions per week 2 sessions per week for administration, ward referrals, ward rounds, audit and attendance at regional meetings as part of continuing medical education. Regional meetings are held at, Addenbrookes Hospital and rotationally at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and James Paget University Hospital. The post is based at James Paget University Hospital however there is an expectation that the post holder will attend outreach and peripheral clinics such as Beccles as required. The post holder will take part in both undergraduate, post graduate student education and teaching. The post holder will support the supervision of Nurse Led Clinics Under the supervision of a Consultant post holder will respond to Ward referrals. The post holder will be accountable for their clinical notes and any other documentation and letters within the range of their professional responsibilities. There is the expectation, as appropriate, the post holder will seek clinical advice as appropriate. There is an expectation that the post holder will attend regular department meetings including, SSMDT and LSMDT. Annual appraisal and Job Planning will be undertaken by the Dermatology Clinical Lead and signed off by the Associate Medical Director The post holder will have access to a shared office, desk and PC All medical staff are expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways (including National Institute of Clinical Excellence and British Association of Dermatologists Guidelines) Professional Development, Mandatory Training, Appraisal and Risk Management. The pay band you will be offered will be that operational at the time you sign your contract in line with Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service. The timetable will take account of departmental needs and the individual’s particular interests. We encourage all permanent members of the department to develop their strengths and take on responsibilities in the department/trust.
