Head of Food Safety, Hygiene and Compliance

We are Irish owned and operate over 130 stores across Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Spain, as well as a growing online store. We are expanding our service and product offering for our customers all the time. We are now hiring a seasoned Head of Food Safety, Hygiene and Compliance to join the business.
Key Duties involve:
1. Manage the overall Food safety, Hygiene and compliance approach and road map for Dunnes Stores. Drive a best in class approach embedding a strong culture of food safety across the whole business.
2. Serve as an advisor and subject matter expert to the business in all elements of food safety, hygiene and compliance keeping the business updated on new approaches and their obligations and responsibilities. Propose ideas and ways of working to incorporate the changes.
3. Work closely with the key business leaders and stakeholders to deliver the food safety programme of work and ensure the store operations are conducted in compliance with the applicable legislation, including company policy and procedures.
4. Build strong relationships with the key stakeholders both in stores and in head office and work closely with the food Technical teams and other safety and compliance teams.
5. Drive a culture of food safety by rolling out a roadmap of food safety training for all employees.
6. Manage Food Safety training at all points including new hires, continuous training and new businesses.
7. Manage Food Safety & HACCP for new acquisitions and new concepts.
8. Responsible for a robust food safety audit process including managing store auditing rotas, store food safety inspections and root cause analysis to maintain a safe working environment.
9. Manage non-conformance issues raised in audits and EHO reports and action across the business.
10. Manage communications with EHO and any other external bodies as requested by the Director of Operations.
11. Responsible for reporting, tracking and investigation and implement and agree key KPIs with the business.
The ideal candidate will have:
1. A 3rd level qualification in Food Science, Environmental Health or a recognised food safety qualification with a minimum of Level 3 Food Safety & HACCP Course and ideally a Train the Trainer Course.
2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Food Safety officer in a retail or hospitality environment.
3. Excellent leadership, communication, planning, organisational and presentation skills.
4. Decisive, self-motivated with the ability to represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
