Halfords has recently established a new company-wide Commercial Planning team, encompassing our Retail, Garages, and Mobile divisions. This team focuses on pricing, promotions, and commercial forecasting.
The Data Science team is seeking a motivated Data Scientist to support the Commercial Planning and Pricing Teams. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing data-driven pricing strategies aimed at maximizing revenue, enhancing customer experience, and supporting business growth.

Responsibilities
1. End to End delivery: Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, gather data, engineer features, and deliver models, including presenting findings to stakeholders.
2. Data analysis and modelling: Use statistical and experimental techniques, predictive modelling, and machine learning algorithms to analyze datasets related to pricing, promotions, sales, and customer behavior. Develop a price optimization tool to maximize profit or revenue based on elasticity measurements, employing methods such as regression, experimental/reinforcement learning, or Bayesian approaches.
3. Commercial forecasting support: Build forecasting models to predict pricing trends, demand patterns, and market dynamics. Conduct scenario analyses to assess the impact of various pricing strategies and external factors.
4. Pricing automation and deployment: Automate pricing processes using Databricks, Python, and Power BI, including web scraping, price indexing, and elasticity analysis.
5. Data visualisation and reporting: Create compelling reports and dashboards to communicate complex insights to stakeholders, including presentations to senior management highlighting opportunities for revenue growth and competitive advantage.
Key Skills
* A degree or equivalent in a science or quantitative field.
* Strong analytics expertise, particularly within a Microsoft Azure, Databricks, SQL, Python, Pyspark, and Power BI environment.
* Pricing experience is preferred.
* Experience with modelling, data management, information systems, and related software.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to present insights confidently to non-technical audiences.
* Self-driven with the ability to work independently and make key modelling decisions.
