Job summary
To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team demonstrating a range of nursing skills to meet the needs of the patient in a safe, caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy and respect under appropriate supervision of registered nurses.
The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge and skills within the specialty and will assist in the management and delivery of compassionate, high quality patient care.
The post holder will work with nursing assistants, clerical support and support the training of student nurses and volunteers.
Demonstrates the Trust Values and Behaviours and the Trust Code of Conduct and the nursing and midwifery 6C's at all times acting in the best interests of patients and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
The post holder has a duty of care to patients and is expected to comply fully with all Trust policies in particular policies relating to personal and patient safety and the prevention of healthcare associated infections. As a Trust employee you will honour your work commitments, be reliable, trustworthy and uphold values and beliefs of the Trust.
Applicants must have Maths/English Functional Skills Level 2 (GCSE 4-9)
Main duties of the job
1. To assist in completing demographic details and recording base-line observations.
2. To provide care to patients following instructions in the care plan, programme or pathway.
3. To demonstrate competence in the accurate recording of routine clinical observations.
4. To recognise abnormal recordings or signs of change in a patient's condition and report changes to a registered nurse.
5. To assess patient's level of dependence in meeting personal care needs and give appropriate assistance (includes hygiene, mobility, nutrition, elimination and comfort).
6. To assist patients to eat and drink in a sensitive and supportive manner.
7. To accurately record information on patient food charts and fluid balance charts, reporting concerns to a registered nurse.
8. To carry out clinical skills relevant to the ward/department and patient group (eg phlebotomy, ECG recording, simple dressings).
9. To assist clinical team with data entry, filing and maintaining accurate documentation of care.
10. To assist in escorting, transferring and discharging patients, ensuring all property is packed and the bed area is prepared for the next patient.
11. To ensure treatment rooms and ward areas are adequately stocked and tidy.
12. To participate in clinical supervision.
13. To assist in resolving conflict by responding to concerns and complaints in a positive manner.

Qualifications

* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
* Care certificate.
* Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3; -Theoretical knowledge -Experience of a range of care and related procedures -clinical observations -knowledge of relevant legislation
