The role
We are seeking an experienced manager to lead and manage our IoT provision. This role requires an individual who excels in team leadership, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, innovation, and accountability, along with curriculum development and driving continuous improvements.
About you
You will have proven experience of curriculum management, preferably of HE within an FE environment, be passionate about team development and thrive on supporting and motivating others to achieve shared goals.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
The following is an indication of the type and level of the main priorities expected of this role as directed by your line manager and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties or tasks:
1. Lead the curriculum team in the preparation, development, and implementation of curriculum, teaching and learning delivery plans for the designated curriculum specialism, in accordance with the strategic plan set for the College, assessing immediate and short-term needs, ensuring that all such plans remain robust and fit for purpose in accordance with departmental and College requirements. This will include personal delivery of a set number of teaching hours as agreed with the Director of Curriculum.
2. Lead on the delivery, development, and maintenance of effective timetables for programmes across the IoT, taking account of physical resources e.g. accommodation, relevant specialist facilities etc., ensuring the optimum use of human resources, balancing skills and experience and allocating classes to match the available amount of contact hours.
3. Monitor on a daily/weekly basis, all College, team and individual targets as specified by the Director of Curriculum, in particular, monitoring student attendance, retention, achievement and progress against student starting points, developing and implementing strategies to assist teaching staff in the achievement of key performance indicators, whilst ensuring that all such targets are monitored and appropriate steps taken to address underperformance.
4. Lead on the quality assurance of teaching and learning for the curriculum across the Institute and/or related courses across the College, assessing and driving quality improvements, promoting and implementing innovative and best practice techniques, to ensure the continued and sustained improvement of quality in these areas covering short to medium term activity and targets for the department.
5. Ensure all university quality and assessment processes and procedures are accurately followed within university agreed timeframes and that MidKent College is compliant with all Office for Students, QAA and CMA requirements in delivering its IoT HE provision.
6. Working with the Director of Curriculum lead the business planning process for the designated department, by undertaking research and analysis, providing data and ideas, options and solutions based on the knowledge of programmes, student retention and achievement and their impact on both human, financial and physical resources.
7. Manage all designated staff, taking responsibility for allocation of duties, performance, absence management, 1-2-1s, time keeping, approval of annual leave etc., and the cost-effective use of overtime, allocation of additional contact hours and time off in lieu for staff, ensuring full compliance with relevant College policies and procedures at all times. This will include participating in recruitment and selection of staff as required.
8. Lead on the development, design and implementation of an innovative employer-led curriculum in the construction and engineering fields working alongside the curriculum team, apprenticeship team and validating universities.
