Customs Specialist We have an exciting vacancy for a fantastic Customs Specialist to join us at our site in Gillingham or Poole. This is a critical and important role for the business. Scope of responsibilities and Purpose of the role Reporting to the site director you will be responsible to ensure processes are in place to deliver the compliant and efficient import & export of products to and from the UK using external Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders. Work with senior management to develop proposals to carryout customs clearance in house. Essential Job Function Be the customs expert for the company. Interact with Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders to ensure the compliant and efficient export & import of all shipments. Interface and support internal/external customers to ensure compliance with import/export regulations and our policies and procedures Work closely with Trade Compliance Team Audit customs data, practices and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations Host any audits from external customs authorities Support application for and retention of AEO status Interfaces Internal interfaces: Warehouse, Logistics, Freight, Trade Compliance, Finance External interfaces: HMRC, Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders Qualification and Competencies required Education / Professional Experience / Knowledge and Skills Essential/critical Must have strong knowledge and understanding of import/export laws and procedures for all products including chemicals Min 5 years’ experience working in a Customs environment Good Working Knowledge of Import & Export clearance procedures Customs documentation Export/Import Licence and Export Controls Customs Brokerage & Freight Forwarding CHIEF, CFSP and NES Intrastats Excellent interpersonal communication skills Work well to deadlines and under pressure but still ensure quality is a priory Logical, organised and process orientated way of working Creative problem solver Able to work both on own or in a team Good intermediate MS Excel skills Experience of AEO Experience in Brexit prepation Desired/advantageous Formal qualification in Import & Export Management Experience with SAP Logistics & transportation experience What we offer: With us, there are always opportunities to break new ground.
