Senior/ Principal Civil/ Structural Engineer

Salary: c.£70,000

About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior/ Principal Civil/ Structural Engineer to lead our Rail Civils & Structures team in South West London. Reporting directly to Director level, you'll be part of a dynamic, growing team working on high-profile rail projects. This role requires technical excellence, innovative design solutions, and a strong focus on client relationships and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver innovative, sustainable, and efficient structural engineering solutions across rail and power projects.
Lead, mentor, and manage junior engineers and technicians to ensure timely, coordinated, and high-quality project outputs.
Coordinate multi-disciplinary design efforts and ensure project stability during construction and in the final state.
Review project designs to align with internal and client standards, with a focus on Health & Safety.
Maintain a CDM Designers Risk Register and ensure any unique risks are communicated to contractors.
Conduct site investigations and inspections, recording conditions for accurate project planning.People and Project Management
Supervise a team, manage workflow, and ensure quality standards while meeting monthly invoicing targets.
Track and report team progress, flagging resource needs, and suggesting improvements.
Prepare competitive, profitable bids and fee proposals, maintaining project records for scope changes and additional work.Marketing and Client Relations
Build strong client and industry relationships, promoting our company at industry events.
Contribute to marketing efforts and maintain excellent professional relationships to encourage repeat business.Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; ideally, a Master's degree.
8+ years in design consultancy, with experience in rail/energy infrastructure projects.
Expertise in Network Rail bridges/structures and strong CDM Risk Register management.
Experience managing a team, with evidence of skill development in junior engineers.
Proficiency in engineering design software and a high level of computer literacy.
Experience preparing clear calculations, designs, and presenting ideas confidently.
A clean UK driving licence is essential for site travel.
Desirable:
Near Chartered status (ICE or IStructE).
Strong financial management experience for project control
