The role
As a Driver, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll have a key role supporting the Royal Engineer troops operating on site, and in the field on training and on tactical operations, where the highest standards will be expected. You'll be required to drive and operate a wide range of military and civilian vehicles on and off-road, from Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV) which include minibuses and coaches, to both rigid and articulated Large Goods Vehicles (LGV). You'll be responsible for making sure military personnel, equipment and vehicles get to the right place, at the right time!
Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:
* Transporting eligible personnel and/or equipment to and from the appropriate training exercise or other entitled military duty and ensure their safe carriage
* Carrying out Before, During and After Use Checks of the vehicle fleet reporting all defects
* Performing Level 1 Vehicle Maintenance tasks
* Carrying out other tasks within your sphere of experience and capability, as directed
* Completing department administrative tasks, when required
* This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at RSME Minley, just a short commute from Farnborough (5.2 miles), Camberley (4.7 miles), Aldershot (7.7 miles) or Fleet (3.9 miles).
Essential experience of the Driver
* Able to operate a wide range of vehicles
* Technically competent; familiar with vehicle checks and maintaining roadworthiness of vehicles
* Experienced in loading/unloading and restraint of loads
* In depth knowledge of Drivers Hours Regulations, either; as per JSP800 Vol 5 or EU regulations
* Experienced in off-road driving
* Good diplomacy and communication skills; able to integrate effectively with Internal, Civilian, and Military Personnel at all levels
Qualifications for the Driver
* Clean Category B Driving Licence
* Category C and/or Category D Licences (essential)
* Category C+E and Category D Licences (desirable)
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC security clearance for this role.
