Job Title: Mechanical Estimator Location: Office-based near Chesterfield - Hybrid options available Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per year Job Type: Full-time The Opportunity: On behalf of a growing M&E contractor with a £30m annual project turnover, we're looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their commercial team. Projects typically range from £8m to £15m, focused on student accommodation and residential developments across the UK. You'll be working closely with project teams to price mechanical packages accurately and competitively, contributing directly to winning work and driving profitable growth. Key Responsibilities: Review and analyse project documentation to understand the mechanical scope (HVAC, plumbing, ventilation). Perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for materials, labour, and equipment. Source competitive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors. Accurately calculate labour requirements, overheads, and apply suitable profit margins. Compile professional, detailed bid proposals and cost summaries. Identify risks and suggest mitigation strategies. Contribute to value engineering discussions and propose cost-saving alternatives. Attend tender review meetings and support pre-construction activity. Maintain and update cost databases and market pricing intel. Visit project sites where necessary to assess conditions. Requirements: Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the construction/building services sector. Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, ventilation). Solid understanding of construction processes, drawings, and specifications. Confident performing take-offs, cost breakdowns, and pricing subcontract packages. Comfortable using estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel essential). Excellent attention to detail, time management, and commercial acumen. Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
