Due to a retirement and the promotion of the existing post holder, an outstanding opportunity has arisen for the successful applicant to take up a key post within the Revenues & Benefits Service. You will report to and deputise for the Revenues & Benefits Head of Service and will manage the Collections and Support Teams. You will be responsible for providing operational and managerial direction for the Council Tax, Business Rates, Corporate Debt and Support teams. You will lead on a wide range of service and corporate priorities and cross-council initiatives and developments. Specifically, you will: Deputise for Head of Service Manage four teams of staff Maximise income collection and debt recovery Develop, support and implement transformation and improvement Lead on performance, quality and accuracy We are looking for an experienced professional with a track record of successful management and leadership within a Council Revenues & Benefits Service, collection and recovery, and preferably with a broader knowledge of Service-wide responsibilities and work areas. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates and other collection and recovery legislation, practices, systems, developments and issues and will be able therefore to drive improved performance and efficiency. Deputising for the Head of Service you will be able to lead on corporate issues involving and affecting Revenues & Benefits and to which the Service must contribute. This will include transformation projects and cross-council work on improvements and efficiencies. You need to be enthusiastic, highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills and experience of dealing with technical collection and recovery issues, contract management, performance management and difficult and complex staffing issues. You will need to be adaptable and innovative with a strong ability to provide leadership and support to colleagues and teams across the Service through change and transformation.
