The Specialist for Interpersonal Violence Prevention & Education reports to the Title IX Coordinator. This position is also responsible for six areas of project and programming management.
Education Required
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Communications, Sociology, etc.)
Education Preferred
Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, etc.
Experience Required
Strong administrative and project management experience. Experience developing and facilitating presentations, education sessions, and activities across a variety of constituencies. Experience with budget planning and reporting. Experience responding to sexual misconduct/interpersonal violence, handling confidential information, providing individualized support, and outreach programming strongly preferred

* Exceptional project management skills, including budget management, program planning, program implementation, reporting, and program assessment skills
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive matters in a clear and understandable manner
* Understanding of campus education issues addressing interpersonal violence—including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, hazing, and harassment
* General understanding of trauma-informed techniques to provide support and prevention programming concepts.
* Ability to advise the university community on coordinated prevention and response partnerships
* Basic knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and procedures related to sexual assault, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, hazing, and harassment
* Ability to identify and coordinate methods and programs for meeting the needs of victims from under-represented populations
* Ability to analyze processes and make recommendations for improvements
* Ability to develop and implement standard operating procedures
* Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
* Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
* Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
* Commitment to providing unbiased and inclusive support services
* Must be willing to work confidently and sensitively with distressed individuals.
Special Working Conditions
Employee will need to coordinate programs for students and second/third shift employees, which will require some events in the evenings and on weekends. Employee must be mentally and physically able to perform all essential job functions which includes normal range of motion, reading, pushing, pulling, and lifting (15 lbs.)

Primary Duties
1. Campus-wide training and education. The Coordinator is responsible for researching, identifying, and implementing effective training and education to prevent and educate on issues of interpersonal violence, sexual misconduct, harassment, and hazing. Programming must be in compliance with federal and state requirements. Where additional campus support is needed, the Coordinator develops appropriate programming to address those needs and partners with various individuals/departments on campus to deliver the training/education. The Coordinator works collaboratively with Residence Life, SGA, Athletics, Multicultural Student Programs, Office of Academic Accessibility, Campus Safety, and the Engle Center to identify/address best practices for education as well as design programming that effectively supports specific constituent groups.
2. Confidential Resource for students. The Coordinator provides confidential assistance, referrals, and support to students seeking resources related to interpersonal violence, harassment, or hazing. Departments across campus (such as Res Life, the Engle Center, Disability Services, and Athletics) can refer students to the Coordinator for support, resources, and mentorship.
3. Student Mentorship. The Coordinator functions as a mentor and guide to students who are examining relationships and concerns related to interpersonal violence and interpersonal wellness. Depending on the situation, the Coordinator may be asked to meet with students to examine behavioral choices.
4. IPV Policy Audit, Grievance Procedure & Compliance Review. The Coordinator partners with the Title IX Coordinator, Dean of Students, and Director of Campus Safety in regularly updating policies, refining procedures, and identifying gaps in protocols so as to assure effective victim care, compliance with regulations, and alignment with best practices for preventing and addressing incidents on campus. This position also partners with the Grievance Review Board in making sure that process is applied appropriately, editing the process when gaps are identified, and training the Grievance Review Board on emerging trends and concepts related to IPV on college campuses.
5. Committee Participation. The Coordinator functions as an advisor to SAGE and collaborates on chapel programming sponsored by SAGE. This position also participates on the Gender Concerns Committee, Campus Climate Action Team, and SAART .
6. Foster key relationships across campus and in the community. Outside of Messiah, this position is responsible for managing solid working relationships with YWCA partners as well as with colleagues in PCAR, DVS, NSRC, and NSVRC. The Coordinator identifies opportunities for collaborations and programming across committee and community networks.
7. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
