Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Designer/CDM Advisor to join our team at Summers Inman. As a key member of our design and construction team, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of challenging and interesting projects across various sectors in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake principal designer duties, including site visits, preparation of preconstruction documentation, and other associated tasks, as defined by the Construction (Design and Management) regulations 2015 and as otherwise required of the role.
* Manage your own projects, serving as the key interface between client teams, design teams, principal contractors, and others to deliver projects in line with client remits, programmes, and budgets.
* Conduct thorough reviews of site project information and construction drawings, identifying design, construction, and maintenance risks through design risk reviews.
* Participate in and coordinate design and project meetings as required throughout projects, including temporary works review meetings.
* Visit project sites prior to construction to carry out initial risk appraisals.
* Prepare, coordinate, and distribute relevant health and safety information to other design and project team members, using company formats where required.
* Review construction phase plans prepared by principal contractors and advise on suitability.
* Review risk assessments and method statements and issue formal review reports.
* Oversee the preparation and production of pre-construction information and CPPs.
Requirements and Qualifications
* IMaPS or CMaPS accreditation (Incorporated or Certified Membership of the Association for Project Safety).
* A minimum of 2-5 years' experience acting as principal designer.
* A demonstrable understanding of design and construction drawings, with experience of undertaking design risk reviews.
* A thorough understanding of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 and other associated health and safety legislation.
* Ability to manage multiple projects, attend design and project meetings, and manage time effectively.
* NEBOSH certificate in construction health and safety.
* Competent and experienced user of general Microsoft Office software.
* A driving license is essential, with regular travel across the UK required.
