Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist (Learning Disabilities)
East London Foundation Trust is looking for a HCPC registered Occupational Therapist (OT), with considerable post-registration experience of working with adults with learning disabilities to join the Newham Health Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities (NHLD). We are a health team working primarily with individuals with severe, profound, and multiple learning disabilities and people with moderate learning disabilities and complex needs.
Main duties of the job
This position is a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist post. It will appeal to an Occupational Therapist who would like to combine their learning disability clinical experience and expertise with their leadership skills. This is a full-time role, based in Stratford, London close to tube, rail, and DLR stations.
You will lead an established, skilled, and motivated Occupational Therapy Team, which is part of the multi-disciplinary team composed of Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists/Behaviours Specialists, and Psychiatrists. As the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, you will be involved in clinical governance and service development, supervising the OT team members.
The Occupational Therapy Team offers effective services, focusing on ensuring that the people they work with are able to engage in and participate in activities of daily living. The OT team has embraced innovative practice in relation to sensory work and functional assessment to ensure people are able to take part in activities that increase their independence and wellbeing. The OTs work with people and their supporters in a variety of places - people's homes, the community, day centres, and educational settings.
About us
You will have previous experience of working with people who have learning disabilities, previous involvement in service development and leadership, and a sound understanding of the legal frameworks relevant to people with learning disabilities. You will hold a clinical caseload, to be autonomous in carrying out assessment, intervention, and evaluation of your OT work and to provide support and clinical and managerial supervision for the Occupational Therapy Team.
Job responsibilities
You will receive supervision and support from the Deputy Team Manager and Clinical Service Manager. We will offer a friendly work environment, a broad range of clinical experience, clinical supervision, internal and external training sessions, and support for CPD and career development.
Person Specification
Education/ Qualification/ Training
* Occupational Therapy Degree or equivalent
* Registration with Health and Care Professions Council
* Post-graduate courses relevant to the post evidenced in CPD portfolio at appropriate level
* Highly specialist knowledge of theory and practice of Occupational Therapy in relation to this client group
Experience
* Clinical post-qualifying experience working with people with learning disabilities
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of participation in clinical governance activities
* Experience of managing and supervising others
* Ability to work, communicate, and negotiate with a wide range of professionals as a member of a multidisciplinary team
* Ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with clients and their families/carers
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to people with learning disabilities, including sensory
* Knowledge of current legislation affecting people with learning disabilities
* Knowledge of safe manual handling techniques
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and audit
