PART TIME SCHOOLS COUNSELLOR – term-time only (39 weeks)

An opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to enhance our team within the schools counselling project.

1.0 General
1. To have regard to the policies, procedures and practices of Family Welfare and the schools in which we deliver individual counselling.
2. To establish and maintain professional relationships with appropriate organisations.
3. To have regard to all legislation in relation to both adults and children (Mental Health Act, Community Care Act, Children’s Act, Family Law).
4. To participate fully in an annual review process agreed by Family Welfare.
5. To achieve all targets set down by the Trustees as commensurate with the post.
6. Taking shared responsibility for making known the purposes and goals of the Organisation ensuring its quality reputation is well known and opportunities to extend its work are shared wherever the Organisation’s values would be of benefit to families and individuals across the borough and beyond.
2.0 Professional Duties
1. To participate with the CEO and Counselling Services Manager and other colleagues, in the development of counselling policies and strategies and to work within the policies agreed, in particular the Confidentiality Policy.
2. To contribute to the Family Welfare Counselling Service as agreed with the CEO and Counselling Services Manager providing individual counselling together with group work when appropriate.
3. To seek to develop with other professionals a good understanding of the work of the Counsellors and the support that they can offer both at the individual and institutional level.
4. To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues, schools and outside agencies in relation to their work.
5. To keep confidential notes of counselling sessions and maintain the confidentiality of the professional records of the Service, and work within the record keeping policy of the Organisation.
6. To manage their caseload in liaison with the CEO and Counselling Services Manager, contact person in school and designated safeguarding officer in school.
7. To maintain a professional awareness of the working practice within the Counselling Service which is based upon the guidelines laid down by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in their Ethical Framework.
3.0 Inservice Training, Research and Development
1. To attend the monthly internal line management supervision arranged within the Organisation and to participate in the agreed arrangement for consultative supervision.
2. To assist, with the CEO and Counselling Services Manager, in the identification of the training needs of counsellors within the service.
3. To maintain a professional awareness of the developments in counselling through personal reading and attendance at courses, in liaison with the Chief Officer and Counselling Services Manager.
4. To participate in in-service training programmes as agreed with the Chief Officer and Counselling Services Manager.
4.0 Administrative Organisation and Management
1. To maintain a professional awareness of the published resources for information regarding counselling and assist in the development of a stock of resource materials to enhance work during the counselling sessions.
2. To produce records and reports as requested by the CEO and Counselling Services Manager.
3. To participate in meetings which relate to the development, administration or organisation of the Counselling Service, including team meetings.
4. To undertake such other professional duties as may reasonably be required by the Counselling Services Manager.
Minimum Requirements
* BACP registration
* Diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy
* To be able to manage a caseload of clients and provide counselling on a peripatetic basis.
* To be able to maintain and show effective administration.
* Full driving licence, own transport and individual professional liability insurance.
* The person we are looking for needs to have compassion, empathy, professional integrity and insight.
* A level of interpersonal skills to enable professional relationships to be developed with clients, staff and other professionals.
* The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* The ability to liaise effectively with other agencies.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £13,000.00-£14,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 14 per week
